Custom Android 2.0 Roms... where are they?

Android 2.0... what's the deal? Is it out yet? If so, are there custom ROMs? I sure would appreciate a speed boost.

I'm sorry if someone has already asked, but there is so much information out there that I am having a hard time navigating it all.
 
I too would like to know what the best ROM is at the moment? I am due to recieve my Hero in the next few days. Apart from the official HTC ROM what is the best Custom ROM out there?

Is it difficult to install? I've seen guides but none recommend any ROMS :(

The main thing is if I update it to Modaco ROM will the HTC SENSE UI still exist? Will it function?

Also is it possible to ROOT the Hero without updating to a Custom ROM (I want to wait preferably for 2.0) ?

I would still like to install apps to SD card...Task manager / File manager

The MCR 'home page' should explain all.

@jUsT2eXy: SenseUI remains; the ROM is just a reworking of the 2.73.405.38 HTC ROM so nothing UI-wise is changed.

Rooting is unproblematic on some ROMS, impossible on others. Basically you won't know 'til you get the handset; is it a contract 'phone or SIM-free?

AppsToSD is, afaik, a non-starter at present without using a MoDaCo custom ROM that has it built-in.

Hey! :D Getting my Hero 2morrow. yay! loll.

Ok nice 1. Sense UI is Sexiii !!

My handset is Sim-Free... So I am going to have to use the MoDaCo ROM to install apps to SD card..ok no problem..I will use the online guides to root and install custom ROM 2moz. I will have to do this all over again when my 16GB card arrives next week dOh!

Any thing else I should do when I get my phone tommorrow?
Do I need to update anything via HTC website (e.g. there ROM)..or is there no point since I am updating to a custom rom?

Instructions are contained in the link I posted earlier, along with d/l links for the required files. It'll take maybe 15mins tops, and that includes the time needed to make that all-important backup.
