Root Custom Boot Animation

You can use the new 2nd-init bootstrap recovery to flash flashable bootanimations.
Replace bootanimation.zip in /system/media in this zip: purple.zip

Then flash (you will have to disable signature check in the recovery if signature checks are enabled).

Ok....forgive my n00bness but I'm only "slightly" confused right now. I've been trying different bootanimations and I have some questions.

1) When you guys talk about making sure the size is 320X480 you are talking about the desc.txt file right? Not the actual image file. Because out of all of the boot animations I CAN get to work not a single one is 320X480 (the picture file itself). However the desc.txt file is.

2) I've seen on MULTIPLE forums (pretty sure it was even discussed here. I know 2gig mentioned it briefly in another thread where I was talking about shutdown animations which was partly my fault for mentioning it first) that it shouldn't matter if you use png or jpg. HOWEVER the ONLY boot animations I can get to work are jpgs. Every single one that I try to use that contains png files just gives me a black screen. As soon as I either A)convert them to jpg or B)find the SAME boot animation in jpg form it works fine.

3)Adanmex mentions here http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-all-things-root/627136-swapping-boot-animations.html#post5037516 that he has boot animation sound. I'm going to probably pm him as well asking BUT I figured if someone has instruction for how to get this to work on our phone it might help people later who are doing a search?

4)What's the difference between manually swapping out boot animation files and flashing it like sammyz mentioned?

5)You guys kick ass and are an amazing source of help. I really am trying to learn how to do some of this stuff myself (some stuff I probably won't ever touch because this is my only phone and I can't afford to get another one if I royally F it up. lol)

We all were noobs at once, no sweat ;)

It doesn't have to be 320x480. So long as its in the desc.txt, it will be displayed as 320x480. But I would re-size them just to be safe. :)

How are you converting them?

I wanna know is how do I get a better boot animation sound

I'm not sure Adan has done it :p I am actively looking on how to do this too :(

4)What's the difference between manually swapping out boot animation files and flashing it like sammyz mentioned?

Flashing it is a slightly faster semi-auto way of installing it :)

Why thank you :) All of us are ready to help :D

Just a quick update (been a busy day) I ahem...*cough* found out what was wrong. *whispers* I didn't realize my winrar was set to compress instead of store. So.....yeah. *normal voice* I mean, I had to break it all down in code line by line, GRUELING hours of work. I reverse engineered the code and re-wrote it making it more efficient. *sigh* Png files work just fine. Honestly they even look cleaner than the jpg files I was using. Could have just been whoever created the pictures. *shrugs* Not going to lick a gift horse in the mouth. :D

I've been reading a few sites about adding sound and when I get the time this week I'm going to try them out and see what happens. Thanks again for the help!
