Android Expert
Hey guys wondering if anyone can help me with a custom boot sound.
So i googled how to do a custom boot sound with galaxy s3 and according to the information i read it says that has to be in ogg format which i have and has to be placed in the system/media folder with rw-r-r permissions which i did but no luck. Ive tried putting in system/media/audio/ui folder as well and system/etc folder as well all with no luck so therefor anyone out please explain to me how to use a custom boot sound and where the hell:D to put the file thanks.

Also nothing to do with original question nut is google + necessary for phone to work correctly? Is it safe to remove?

It does go into the system/media/audio/ui and must be named PowerOn.ogg. It is also case sensitive. Also you may need to keep it at about 10 seconds or less if you can.

Gt thank you for your response sir, however unfortunately it did not work for me. wondering if its rom related.

The location posted is where I put mine. I am on 4.3 from T-Mobile US and removed KNOX to get root. Mine works great.

yeah thats where i thought it had to go as well the only thing i didnt do was cut down the size of file which i did after you posted info down to 10 sec, was reading up more on the thread i found on xda and one post had said that couldnt get it to work and was answered that could be that the rom maker had turned boot sound off... it sucks i cant get it to work but not end of world. btw i had the permission set as rw-r-r is yours set up in the same way?

It's possible that it's disabled in the rom. I have no idea how to enable it though. My S3 has no boot sound at all but I still haven't tried adding one. It's probably a carrier thing.

mydian its a att version(no service) originally had boot sound before root , so im gonna gestimate its a rom thing got one more day to tweak it its xmas gift so i flash dif rom let ya fellows know

Woo Hoo figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!! After much googling its an aosp thing.
When running a asop rom you need to use a mp3 file name it boot_audio.mp3 place in system/media folder with rw-r-r permissions by golly its a christmas eve eve miracle

Lol cool mate well done.
So ive wanted to ask, what song have you put on?
Great way to give a phone as a present btw, rooted, rommed and customized :-) merry xmas

well im using a mario bros boot animation so went with mario theme song...
and thank you it is a nice xmas gift, ironic thing is i got good deal payed 350 for brand new phone and i would never spend that much money on a phone for myself because i think its way too much, i could use that money to start my pc that i wanna build....the things you sacrifice for your children( banging my head in frustration lol)

Its for a kid! Wow wish id had a dad like that lol. Is the kid an android enthusiast, into custom roms etc?
My 10yr old nephew fits that bill but his mum wont let him root his nexus7 till the warranty ends (2yrs in europe so he has a year left lol) :D

wouldnt say shes a android enthusiast like we are but daddy has taught her that apple sucks a you know what lol....as far as custom roms shes doesnt know much just that you can theme it and make it how you want it so its customized for easy use etc....man 2 years in europe damn states its a year, but dont understand why sis wont let you do it cant you bring his nexus back to true stock so they wont know its been rooted?

Lol what rom did u put on it? U gona teach her how to update it etc?
Yeah its Euro law that electronic goods get 2yrs (one of their better ideas).
umm, id guess just flashing a factory image to the nexus would take it back to stock but im not sure how nexuses/nexi(?) work. His mum is far from tech savvy though and very stubborn. Actually she probably doesnt know about the 2yr warranty so maybe we could root it tomorrow after xmas dinner :D

the update god no dont want damn knox and have root broken, rom went with dirty unicorn [ROM] [Team D.I.R.T] Dirty Unicorns 4.3.1 - d2att v3.9 - xda-developers for two reasons mainly cuz you can have custom carrier name in status bar that she will love and also because has soft key options for all 3 buttons menu home and back button all 3 having single press double press and long press options, haha def root after xmas dinner, finally check your pm gave ya a gift

Lol i meant update the rom *shudder at the thought of samsung firmware*
I think most of the roms have those options, even the kitkat ones, if not, Xposed Framework definately takes care of it.
Woo... checking PM.....

umm im undecided about that but definitly teaching her how to restore rom incase any mishaps but at end of day she will just give dear old dad phone to fix

no problem for the gift did you like the animation had me lmao, youve been very helpful since i came over to the s3 forum
