Accessories Custom Made Incredible Dock

I hope that wouldn't be an additional request? I thought you mentioned in one of the first posts that Anodizing would be easier than powder coating so I took it that you might already have the equipment or a local vendor. I know your inundated with requests and suggestions but whatever you decide will look awesome either way.

Right now I don't have the means to do either. I am not sure which is easier, but in my opinion an anodized surface looks much better than powder coat, and it is much stronger. Anodizing won't chip or peel, it is part of the metal.

Uh oh, now you did it. You threw out a date! :p The cursing will come Tuesday if you don't have 'em. lol

Thanks for even thinking about taking something like this on. You know how us Incrediblites love our phone.

Haha... I know I know, and as long as all my materials arrive that deadline will be no problem to make. So far I am waiting on aluminum, allen wrenches, screws, and media for my tumbler, and nothing has arrived yet.:eek:.

We will see...

I, for one, would love to see pictures of the manufacturing process. But, I do realize that asking you to take pictures while you are working to make all of these pieces is a bit unreasonable. So, this is not a request -- but if you do happen to take pictures, please post them!

That would be cool.

This is really great! My husband is a cnc machinist, so I can appreciate the effort you have put in to this!

I have a question about having that back support. If the charger is set into the opening and is fixed, and the phone is set on top, will the phone even lean at all while attached to the charger? Could that somehow ruin the connection/opening if pushed back at an angle to lean it against a back rest? Or could the connection of the charger be set at the proper angle so it will be able to lean without problems.

(Sorry if this is a dumb question. My husband is the machinist. I, however, am not inclined to spacial concepts.)

Thanks for the compliments, they are much appreciated.

Ok here is a slight update. Several folks have been concerned about a back rest. And I know it is damn neared impossible to make a product to satisfy everyone, I am gonna give it a heck of a shot.

Sooooo, I am going to include a back rest. This is basically how it is going to work, and I think it will work well. So what you will do is insert your phone, attach the USB cable and snug up the set screws. Then put a slight bend in the wire backrest until it is snug against the back of your phone. This way it should work with a naked phone or any case you can throw at it. With all these updates price is going to have to change a bit. I am going to set a $35.00 tag on it, which I think is more than reasonable with all the customization you can obtain.

What do ya think?

John

That's a great idea for the backrest, I like it. Still adjustable, but simple to implement. I'm definitely in for one now. I might even consider a portrait one for work if you decide to go down that road as well. :D

So, what types of graphics can you put on custom for us? I'm interested in airplane silhouettes, can you do them? What type of picture file would you need?

This is getting better and better. I am very excited :)

Personally I would rather just have it plain so I can add my own designs. May get a buddy of mine to do the little android guy on it like in the OP (he has a cnc, too) or something.

I just wanted to confirm, are you going to ship these with a cable, too? If not I will go ahead and order one (I need an extra anyway! :D)

If I remember I will definetly do this for you. However it is pretty boring lol.

You are 100% correct the phone will not tilt back, which is why I wasn't even going to include a back rest, because I personally don't think it is needed. I don't have one on the one I am using and it is perfectly fine. There is virtually no stress on the phone's port. Which is also why you will have to place a slight bend in the back rest to snug it up against the back of your phone. The more I think about it I just don't want to use it lol. But I am going to use it on the first round. I am guessing most people will remove it and won't even use it.

And yes it wouldn't be a good idea to force the phone back into the back rest with a fixed cable. That could most certainly cause damage.

By the way those are not dumb questions at all.

No, I don't think I am going to ship a cable with these. At least not right now. The four way set screw mount was so you could use your own cable and still have it tight and right.

I didn't think so but some of the posts about cables got me all confused :D

And for what it's worth, I don't think you need a backrest either! In fact, I'll take it off if it's on there. While I think you did the best you could with the design, I don't like it and I honestly can't think of a way that it could be added where I would like it. It just seems unnecessary...

Sent you a pm. I got an idea to simplify this. Are you still entertaining ideas? No laughing please. Does this look doable?

Do you mean something like this? That is much simpler design indeed. Hmmmmm. *thinking*

We are all kind of brainstorming and throwing around ideas in this thread so your input is well appreciated. I want to make something that everyone would be proud to put on his or her desk.

While I like this design, I think the one you posted earlier on this page has more...."style." Now, if this design brings down costs then that may be another story. But I'm waiting for one of your vertical ones, so my opinion may not matter a whole lot here.

I like the older design better as well, although the new design isn't that bad. I can't help feel like it's missing something. Like the previous poster said, if it significantly reduces the costs, if might be worth pursuing.

Maybe if it were more squared like the Incredible itself. You could even do a little mill work on top to resemble an actual Incredible. Now that would be cool. No words needed.. you would know it's for an Incredible.

gimme 2 gimme 2 !!!!!!!!

Nothing better to add to the power and manliness of this phone than it sitting on my desk in a hung of CNC machined metal.

I think the original design looks a little like the android guy on the parts where it attaches to the base, and I like that, but thats my opinion

Both designs are nice and I really appreciate the effort that you are putting in to this.
The original actually reminded me of a "Droid" which really made it look awesome!!
Just my opinion though.
