some credits:
first and formost: scary alien, for all of his advice, info, for doing the breakdown and rebuild of the system image, and most of all for bein my friend and mentor since ive been messing with rooted phones. without him we wouldnt have this.
erisuser1 for his invaluable advice and info. he always seems to have the answer you just cant find after hours of google searching :D
jcase and the gang and team andirc for the actual mr2 leak
akanatrix for posting the mr2 PG05IMG leak on xda
rmk40 for his working superuser for newer sense roms
absolute zero for the hboot file we pulled recovery from

*disclaimer: rooting your phone voids your warranty  anything that happens as a result of that,or using this modded RUU is expressly YOUR fault :)

all this is,is the 1.70.605.0,MR2 firmware that has been rooted, clockwork installed, and hboot removed. it is intended to be an alternate upgrade RUU for those wishing to use the manual root guide without having to flash a new rom and radios immediately after the root procedure.

i have been running this all day. it works fine, and is acceptable to remain on until the GB OTA hits. it will keep you from getting OTA notices while you research roms, and provides the most current,non-leaked radios that most roms require, eliiminating the need for further hboot flashing.

i wanted to get this out there,so any of us helping new rooters can get them to use an mr2 instead of the mr1 that still accompanies the guide.

i will add this to the "rooting methods" thread as well.

obviously, ill take it down when jcase updates the original post with his own MR2 upgrade. please understand i have done this as a service to the community and new rooters(and those of us tired of dealing with the "i rooted and then updated and my phone has gone crazy" posts ;)),i dont want to take any credit for the guide,or make any implications that im associated with it. i.e,sub this at your own risk :)

last and not least,if it has helped this your root experience be a little easier,or just to support a great developer, please consider buying(several times :D) the paid version of scary aliens AFV,wich is a very easy to use tool for checking MD5 sums, and many other things tha a file manager wont do.

if anyone wishes to flash and test,i would appreciate any feedback. i ran it all day and had zero issues whatsoever.

hope it helps a few people before the ota hits,or new methods come out... wichever may happen first :)

Well, I'm here to say this worked for me with the manual root method! :D. I have a rooted TB, not a brick! Thanks for assembling the info for us Scotty and to all the folks who made this for us

Awesome! (and you are very welcome!)...

Dexter, er, Scotty, that is, is a very persuasive, creative, and (semi-)evil mad scientist :D :p ;).

Hi,
Another question sorry.
After doing the safer root procedure that is recommended [ROOT] MR1/OTA PermRoot + Unlock Bootloader - Safer/Easier 5/12/2011 - xda-developers and using MR2 instead, can I then reboot phone then login to google to install apps and data and then make a nandroid backup of it so I have a full backup to go back to as a base?
Do I have to worry about a ota trying to get on before I install a rom ie: cynagemon?

Thanks,
Bryan

Mr2 s the most current firmware,so you can sign in and run it without fear of OTAs,at least until GB hits :)

Getting everything set up and making a nandroid so you have a stock backup to go back to is an excellent idea :)

See I have been listening to you folks here :)
I tell you even when people ask questions that sound newbie, it really helps because it saves from those same questions getting asked again to a point :)
This site is like an encyclopedia !
Much appreciate all the informative responses to my very basic questions that are way below your informative level!
Thanks,
Bryan
Going for root now may the force be with me :)

Hi,
I wanted to say THANK YOU!!! for all the help I have received here!
I am now one of you ROOTED!! and even installed a rom with kernel. I have to say I was very hesitant to do it, but with alot of patience here I got the courage to do it not through one click but through ADB. Which I must say you were all correct it is a better way to learn and safer way to do it.
For anyone on the fence I had season tickets up there :) jump off and do it. It really is not as hard as you might think, and now I have No bloatware and a smoother phone experience. Plus of course better battery life!
I am very lucky to have found this message board and so many helpful people.
I hope I am able to help someone else and pass the knowledge I have received here as I continue to learn :)

Thanks again,
Bryan

I used this method and got root... so thanks to all involved!

Is my understanding correct that with this MR2 we cant use roms yet?

And if that is the case, is there an easy way to downgrade so that I can use a Rom and have aworking radio? :)

Thanks! :D
