jabbawest - if your phone came stock with 2.2.1 (not 2.2 then upgraded to 2.2.1) you need to use a different custom recovery found http://androidforums.com/jabbawest ...nally-custom-recovery-2-2-1-stock-phones.htmlFinally Custom Recovery for 2.2.1 stock phones !!!!!! by joneidy.

Notice the difference in the custom recovery screens (from little android guy to some crazy graffiti/tattoo design).

Also, when inputting the commands in adb, be sure that you take your phone out of USB mass storage mode (you only enable this to put the image files on your sd card). Hope this helps.

btw - if you need more instruction not in video form, go to joneidy's thread Root 2.2.1 and get Data WORKING!!!

good luck!

Thank you and, that's kinda what I thought when I stumbled upon that thread after I had it rooted and flashed thunder recovery. http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...nally-custom-recovery-2-2-1-stock-phones.html
So, what procedure should I use since I already have thunder recovery? Can I just flash this image over it?

Thanks again.

Hmm, I don't know the correct answer to your question, but the only thing I did was delete the thunder and flash image files from my sd, then transfer the new recovery files (from joneidy) onto the sd card. Then disable USB mass storage, and finally run the string of commands via adb.
Maybe someone else can give you a more technical answer, but that's what worked for me.

Stuck right here too, i successfully rooted the 2.2.1, but when i throw the image files on the SD card, then turn off massive storage and i proceed to type the commands in ADB the phone restarts and goes straight to factory settings again, please someone help Ive rooted this phone 4 times now lol

zeroos18ve - did you get the $ to change to # when you typed su in adb? what about any error messages or anything strange while inputting the string of commands? Lastly, make sure you are NOT using the thunder recovery image, rather use the recovery image by joneidy (link a few posts up). see if any of this applies to you and let us know.

Alright well I did all this stuff and all i got was my phone back to original settings.... I wish I knew I was going to lose everything I would of backed it up. Now I dont see no menu like the one in the picture... Im a noob.... whats going on lol. I want the screen so i can back up the phone so i can flash a rom to this thing.....

I was wondering after typing the last ( flash_image recovery /sdcard/ recovery-thunderc-v1.2.0-GNM.img what do you do after that do you turn off the phone and turn it back on or do you type in reboot recovery or reboot ???? can someone please help

latinmazda - after typing in the last terminal command and shutting down your phone, restart the phone by pushing and holding the menu + volume down + Power button keys until you see the recovery menu pop up (after the LG screen). If the recovery menu doesn't come up and your screen either stays all blacked out or just regularly boots the phone, you may have done one of the steps wrong.
good luck!

yes i have lg optimous m 2.2, i updated a couple of months ago to 2.2.1, Then not knowing anthing about rooting phones to customize, i used mikes tools method to bring my phone back to 2.2, i quit using the phone for a couple of months. reactivated it then found out on here that 2.2.1 can be rooted, when i try to update through lg i get a fatal error saying update cant continue, well some how i lost my custom recovery, what i am wanting to do is put a different rom on here, so i am using recovery-thunderc-m-v1.2.0-GNM.img and flash_image. when i get to this part on the terminal # cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
it tells me bad path flash image doesnt exist, i dont think i am understanding how to get the recovery images on the sd card correctly, do i just download them to destop then use mass storage and copy them to sd card, and do i unzip them on desktop first, help would be appreciated.

I keep getting stuck on step 2 "cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image" and getting a "The system cannot find the path specified. Any ideas?

Nevermind, I figured out the issue there. I hadn't entered "adb shell." Now that I entered adb shell and got into the su shell, the commands I enter will not do anything, they just display the command on a line below its entry without the # sign. ex:

# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system

Any ideas?

EDIT:
For anyone having this issue, don't try to use adb shell. Just use terminal emulator on the phone. That is what I did and it came out fine :)

I'm a newbie when it comes to android phones. I was able to root the phone, but when i try to get these recovery files on the phone it won't find them when I try to install it though terminal with the code you gave us. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong please help.

are you rooted?? also did you download BOTH files recovery-thunderc-m-v1.2.0-GNM.img.zip and http://androidforums.com/attachment...stom-recovery-ms690-optimus-m-flash_image.zip if you did, copy BOTH files to the root of your SD card..after that, open up your cmd and type:

adb shell
then after that,type:
su
once you hit that,a # should display instead of $.once you get the #,type in the listed commands.if you already pused the downloaded files to your phone and you succeed in this last step, once its done doing its thing, power it off and reboot.then you should have service.hopefully this helps you out...ALSO YOU MUST ALREADY BE ROOTED AND HAVE SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS!AND WHEN YOU TYPE SU IN THE CMD BOX,YOUR PHONE SHOULD ASK FOR PERMISSION.ALLOW IT PERMISSION.THAT IS HOW YOU GET # INSTEAD OF $

Ive put the 2 img files on my sd card not in any folder and when I open up terminal emulator and type "su shell" super user asks for permission and I allow it. Then I type in the first line of code to mount and it tells me operation is not allowed or something to that extent

Everytime I try and do the first command it says mount: device or resource busy.

Can someone please help me. I am struggling big time. lol.

i have tried with the sd card mounted, unmounted, and root explorer set to r/o and r/w

I flashed Recovery on optimus m 2.2 went to reboot and now phone is stuck in fast boot mode. Could really use some help. Thanks:confused:

So I did everything and when rebooting it does go into system recovery. although something strange, Once in recovery the only working button is the VOLUP button, which scrolls down on the menu, Home, Power, VOLDOWN, none of those keys are doing anything

Hello everyone, I keep getting stuck on a black screen, no commands? Ive tried adb shell and terminal emulator, my phone just gets a black screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I did this and it seemed to work, but when I reboot into recovery all i get is a blank screen and I have to repeatedly press random buttons or remove the battery to get it to restart. When it does nothing has changed.

You have to download the all in one recovery. Make sure to download the right one. This recovery will not function for you.
