Root Custom Rom Help

VolsTN98

Lurker
Okay I have a few questions if anyone can help me out.

I have my Optimus V rooted. I used gingerbreak one click without a computer. I installed Clockwork Recovery.

I am wanting to install a custom rom. The one I am wanting is backside.

The problem I am having is how to "flash" the rom. I am not new to putting roms on phones but no where can I find the exact steps you take to flash the rom.

I go into CWM Recovery and try to install it from the sdcard option and this does not work.

I just need to know how to exactly flash the rom and the steps needed to flash it. I know the thread has the steps but it simply just says flash the rom and I cannot find this information anywhere.

If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!

The only version of CWMod recovery that works for the OS 2.2.2 version Optimus V with the Hitachi screen, which you probably have, is the Bob Zohme modified CWMod recovery (VM670NH_recovery.img)
For more info on how to flash a ROM go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...tory-reset-your-rooted-phone.html#post3263770
It wouldn't hurt to put the Xionia v1.2518.6 on the sd card as well. It has an option in the advanced section that allows you to get out of a recovery loop.

I have one of the early models of the V that have 2.2.1. It probably also has the old screen.

I can boot into the recovery but I just do not know how to flash the custom rom. I do not know what "flash" means exactly. I mean where do you go inside the recovery to put the custom rom on the phone.

Before you try to flash anything, you really ought to read this. If you don't you could be in danger of soft-bricking your phone. Granted, we know how to get you fixed, but wouldn't you rather avoid that kind of hassle? Now, to answer your question, if you have CWM 3.2.0.1 for your recovery, boot into recovery then...
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Advanced - wipe dalvik
4. Back button, install zip from sd card - chose zip from sd card.
5. Profit!
Just remember to navigate, the volume up-down buttons moves your selection, camera button makes the selection, back button does just what you'd think.

I'm sorry I can't give you a step by step of other recoveries, but that's what I have on my phone. Hope this helps.

Well I have messed around with roms before so I am not really that new to this just this forum. I have already made a backup which was successfully made. I believe my problem might be I unzipped them and put the folders onto the root of the sd card. I have tried your steps brotherswing but it says no files are in there.

That was the problem lol. I put the files unzipped on the root of the sd card and it worked. Thank you guys for the fast response! Finally gingerbread! lol

The thread I linked to has instructions that are good for both screens.
If you read and follow the advice given you will have a custom ROM installed faster than it takes to change a baby's diaper.

Yah, the OP already got that done. The new baby has got you a bit distracted. Maybe you should concentrate on the new addition to the family. This forum can survive while you enjoy spending more time with your family.

I see that now. The baby isn't here yet, but soon enough. I seem to have been giving a lot of bad advice lately, so I'll return to lurking and leave the advice in your capable hands.

Ok, I see, your stressed from worrying about the new addition. Don't sweat it. You know we got each others back. When I have had brain farts you have always been there to catch them. As long as the OP gets the best advice to help complete his task or solve his problem that's all that counts.

:oDude, I just re-read my instructions. I'm glad you're here, cause I totally botched that one. Hey, at least the directions for flashing were right, but that was hardly the complete process.
