Root Custom Rom?

Not if your phone wasn't originally an O2 phone. Was it branded? If so, what carrier?

If it wasn't branded, the generic one will do.
 
Well since O2 released and then pulled the froyo update, I think it should be sufficient but cant guarantee it.
 
If the custom rom is HTC based, it should. Not sure about other roms (AOSP for example), never tried.

Luckily I have no use for HTC sync.
