Root customizing?

ok so im new to this customizing phones but thanks to you guys im learning as i go and ya'll bail me out when i do something stupid. so....im asking for advice BEFORE i attempt this,. ive been reading the forums a lot, playing with diffrent roms and kernals and now id like to go deeper. right now i have ldrifta's no.2 rom and kernel in my esteem. i like it a lot except for these things. first thing on the pull down menu? the part that has icons for gps, blue tooth, airplane etc? i want to take the ones from black plague and put into no. 2. next i saw that really sweet dialer some folks mentioned porting over from phone candy? how do i do that please? the other thing is how do i go about changeing colors and things like that? then doing things like changeing battery status thingy, signal strength ect. thanks in advance:rock:

The toggle switches are in the RES_cappicinno apk. Just use 7zip to right click and extract the apks. Then swap the images which are found in the res>drawable hdpi folder. Then right click the apk from #2 and select open archive then drag and drop the res folder you changed the images in into the Window and close 7zip and you're done.

You can do the same thing for the signal Icons and all that.. As far as the system ui the apks you want are framework, res cappuccino, system ui. The status bar and ui are split up into those 3.and then the settings apk if you want to change that too.


Phone candy dialer? Just the button images? Do the same thing as above with the contacts apk. If you just want the contacts and dialer just use the contacts apk for phone candy. It'll work on any sw version..... If you decide to post your own version of it using the images from phone candy, I don't ask for credit but I do ask you post credit to dully79 for the images. He's a cool dude and deserves the credit. He actually made an account here JUST to post updated images for me to use.

Hopefully all that helps.... Oh ps only images you need to mess with are in the drawable hdpi folder. Don't worry about any of the other drawable hdxx folders

so im guessing what i want to do is download my current rom as well as the roms im canabalizing and do all my work on the computer? basically take the pieces i want swap them out on the rom i like then just re flash my customized rom zip onto my phone? lmao all this after i do a back up. i learned that lesson the hard way

Yeah pretty much but you don't have to re flash the rom. Just grab any theme zip here delete the apks in it and throw yours in and just flash it

ok so i found your theme of phone candy. its pretty much exactly what i want with a few minor tweaks. how would i go about laying tha whole theme over top ldrifta's no. 2 rom and kernel? i would like to keep the over all feel and appearance of no. 2 but add your cosmetics if you what i mean? one other question. what allows you to over clock the cpu? rom or kernel? how would i flash that into the no.2 so that i dont change anything but the ability to over clock my cpu? sorry. guess thats more than one question.

well i got brave tonight. i tried doing the file swapping like you said. messsed something up. managed to get contacts apk moved and functioning but lost status bar and pulldowns. plus it kept popping up error messages about status bar. went into recovery and wipe wipe wipe restore. as is good. i read the forums on the bubble theme on how to do it. looked at the file sizes of its zip and the no.2 zip and decided its not a full rom and kernel. so i flashed it over no.2 i did not do the wipes for this. now the phone boots up and the complete theme is there everything looks perfect. now.....on the lock screen it keeps saying insert sim card blah blah blah. unlock and it goes away functions perfect. tried to reboot with power button. i have no function there. just resets to ldrifta's boot animation. no options for power off, reboot recover screen shot etc. ideas? im gonna grag a screen shot app and try and upload them. thanks
