damn! dude i'm stuck on the lg logo since the boot..i cant do anything since my computer dont detect my fone. had to reinsert the bat but still no luck...i followed the instructions carefully where did i go wrong??

dude, i downloaded the program and (i think) installed the drivers and then after that theres a button which says Start Updating. If i click that would my 2.1 be updated to 2.2 or would just erase all my files and still remain on 2.1???

That's the official LG updater, it won't update your phone, it'll probably just reinstall 2.1

You installed Cyanogen? Try reflashing by putting the phone into fastboot mode again: holding camera on power on, it should put it into fastboot mode, then try to reflash the phone. Did you install recovery?

i am using LG GT 540.
recently i upgrade my phone to Android 2.3, it's working fine but i a having some issue like Seach Option is not working & voice Search also not working .
when i typ a msg on kyboard showning mic tab. when i click on that it's also not working .
please suggest me.
what is the problem & how to resolve it.

I think that's a bug that hasn't been fixed yet in the ROM, try downloading the voice thing from the Market?

Hi, This is my first post. I have been happy with the android 2.1 LG upgrade, but would like to try 2.2 or 2.3. I would like the wireless tethering available in 2.2.

I have followed the instructions but am having problems with the very first couple of steps!!

I have rooted the handset (which is great), and backed it up, but cannot successfully run the KDW_FW_UPD application. I have tried on 2 different pcs running 64 bit win 7. The port is not found on one machine, and the program would not run on the other, a laptop. Both machines seem to run the usb driver ok, and beep happily when the phone is plugged in. The device manager identifies a LGE Android Platform USB device on both machines, but the KDW...software does not seem to see it ok on one machine. I have downloaded both the UK and the European zip files. I am in Australia.

So, I was wondering if there is an alternative program for putting the kdz file onto the handset?

Hi, Thanks for looking at my problem.

I plug the phone in, the pc beeps nicely, I run KDZ, check the correct phone type is still selected (it remembers it).

I get the best indication of the problem when I click on the "read phone information" tab. I get the unpopulated "read phone information" screen, then I click the "read phone information"tab in the bottom left. I get a beep, then the "R&D Test tool" error (?) screen pops up with a red X, saying "Port(USB or Serial) Not Found!".

If I go to the Device Manager screen, under Disk drives I have a "LGE Android Platform USB Device" listed. This device disappears when I unplug the phone.

If I select the Europe Open+fastboot.dz file in KDZ and select "Launch software update" I get time stamped progress messages:
Launching SW update
Unpacking KDZ
KDZ file extraced
files were extracted.
LGMobileDL Load
Port = -1
Connecting to phone
PHONE WAS NOT FOUND!
===FINISHED===


I have checked a few times that the USB debugging box is ticked. I get the "USB debugging connected" in the status line on the phone.

I have tried with and without the SD card in the phone.

I have also tried the LG supplied driver, but have rerun the LGAndroid.... driver in the zip file since.

Please help.

The good news is the rooting worked ok and barnacle for root seems to work.

I would still really like to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3.

dude, i just fixed this problem i reflashed the mod again and it finally worked i am now using 2.2...whew!for a minute there i thought i was gonna send my fone to the service center. hehe...anyway, i didnt install recovery, should i??

Try plugging the phone into a different USB port, if you're on a desktop PC, switch from the front ports to the back ports and the other way round

Nice one! Glad you got it working! I'd highly recommend installing recovery as if there are any bugs found, you will 99.9% of the time apply the bugfix through recovery, and when there's an update you can backup your phone and data and restore it after you've updated! It's a really big help!

It turns out that the phone was set as a Mass Storage Device Only. So maybe instruction 5.a could be to check it is NOT set a a Mass Storage Device Only in the SD menu.

I could give some feed back on my updating experience, in case it helps others.

Firstly, I found that the Europe Open was version V20A_00 and the other kdz file was V20B_00. My gt540 was running factory upgrade 2.1 had a few apps set up. When I tried both these fastboot images the phone kept erroring. I could not even power it down without it reporting some sort of error. I suspect my apps consumed too much memory, but I could not remove them in the new android 2.1 files.

Secondly, The upgrade to 2.2 needs an android device driver on your pc. For some reason my pc would not let me install the device driver using the file I downloaded as part of the procedure. I found that going through the installation of pdanet actually set up the android ADB drivers so I could continue with the process. (thanks google)

Thirdly, Version 2.2 looks great!! I found that after the final reboot command from the pc window that the next command would not execute. The phone was just sitting there ready to use!!


Thanks again for all your help along the way. I am currently visiting the market to get Mybackup root, so I can rebuild my new phone. I will report back if I have any problems1

okay i'll install recovery then heheh...i have question, why cant i use swype??it force closes..i'm having a hard time typing texts coz of the new keypad...any suggestions??

Nah I don't use swype, don't like it that much.. Here's a link to a swype apk I found, let me know if it works!

Has the Wi-Fi been like that since you installed CM? Or only after you installed the Swpye update? Don't you have mobile data?

After the CM update and i switched the data plan off because my dad pays for the phone (contract). Do u kno how i can fix it

You want to switch on Mobile Data? Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Data Enabled then your mobile data will be activated, same procedure to turn it off

Oh okay cool. Ah that's just random tips, WinZip is just a program on PC that extract's zip files, don't know why they put that on there :L

It's not that hard to do.. All the instructions are really simple, you'll have Froyo in no time!

EDIT: I have created a simple file that will install CyanogenMod for you! Just follow the instructions in the Instructions to install CyanogenMod section of the first post!
