ok firstly, im no techie. i rooted and installed CM7 because people said it was good so i thought id try it. luckily it all went ok as i dont know what id have done if i had an error :-)

but im now thinking why did i do that???

can anyone help me with these problems please?

ive lost my contacts. i want to sync with my gmail acc to get them back but cant see any gmail on there and when i try to connect to that acc using sync it wont let me.

i dont seem to have a 'market' any more so cant download any more apps. id like facebook app back and link to my contacts.

i just dont know my way around this new interface, and dont understand all it can do. have i been a bit daft installing it? :-)

thanks

You have to flash Google apps (gapps) afterwards. There should be a link in the cm thread on xda.

There is also a link in my dropbox in my Sig but can't guarantee its active at the mo

1 step at a time
1st we need to get your rom working properly.

on this thread (where you should have obtained the rom)
[ROM] CyanogenMod-7 for Desire GSM V7.0.3 (06/05/2011) - xda-developers

there is this section in the downloads
Google Addon: 20110307 Universal
Download: goo-inside.me - gapps downloads

click the link for cm7

flash it from recovery reboot

It was the google apps link, in the same section of the dropbox thread.

right, so far so good....sort of :-)

downloaded it thanks, plopped it on sd card, went into recovery and installed it. booted up phone and google prompted me to sign in to my account. typed it all out but its saying username and password dont match and to sort it out from my pc. but......im signed in on those details on my pc, so it DOES match!!

any ideas why this should be?

thanks, i appreciate these quick replies :-)

EDIT: sorted that one. reset password and typed it in and im good to go on that now. ive set it to instal gmail, google maps, facebook etc. says the market installer will only appear once tho.

YES!! im in :-) contacts are in phone gain and im on facebook. thats a start!

thanks so much. im pretty sure therell be something else i need to sort fairly soon but for now im going to leave it before i crack up :-)

cheers

just wondering, is there such a thing as a 'user manual' type thing for these ROMs, much the same as you get one when you first buy the phone?

or do you just have to keep playing and trying stuff out?

or anything at all that lets you see and read what each different ROM looks like and how it works?

There be lots of vids on youtube showcasin' roms, but the bestest way is to try em yourself an play alot. Sometimes its too windy to go out isn't it?

problem is im downloading a fair few apps to try and get phone back to how i used to use it, but if i wipe and install another, theyll all be gone wont they?

ive tried moving as many as poss to sd card but some wont go. i thought i read on one of the many links and threads ive been looking up, that this ROM included app2sd or something that installed to sd automatically.

is there a quick and painless way of trying these ROMs out where i wont be without my contacts for ages again?

thanks

You need to flash dark tremor a2sd and have a partitioned SD card to use a2sd+

Are you partitioned?

Titanium backup can be used to backup your user apps by the way.

It may be worth having a read through the FAQ's in the sticky thread. There is a rooting one and an a2sd one.

correction to the above. Not May. is..

oh dear i really should stop playing around with it :-/

just tried installing a battery percentage zip and something went wrong and all i got was the cyanogenmod 7 home screen circling time after time. so i couldnt do anything with it. wouldnt power off, it had stuck there, so all i could do was battery out, hboot again and restore. only restore point id taken was the original before i started rooting :-(

so........back to square one. have to mebbes try a different ROM now. i assume i just keep downloading zips and trying them? dont need to uninstal anything first? can you just do this indefinitely? and remove old ones from sd card by right clicking them on my computer on the pc?

and any back ups i do, do they stay on the sdcard too? or does the latest one overwrite the last? i was just a bit wary of backing up the cyanogenmod in case i couldnt ever get back to original.

thanks
