Cyanogenmod?

either should be fine. External SD will a good choice as a wipe will clean out internal memory, but as long as you flash the files before doing a wipe you should be fine.

this is from the ROMs thread

First time installing CyanogenMod 10.1 to your Epic 4G Touch, or coming from another ROM:
- Copy GApps and CM 10.1 zip's to your internal SD Card
- Make sure you're NOT RUNNING A KERNEL WITH THE MMC-SUPERBRICK-BUG
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Make sure you're not running a JB modem
- Boot into recovery
- Flash CM 10.1 zip from internal SD Card
- Flash GApps zip from internal SD Card
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!

Okay, so that's the link I've been following. It doesn't mention anything about the EL26. So in the above instructions, where does EL26 come in???

Thank you. I'm anxious to get this done and I was skipping ahead. I really appreciate you taking time to help me this am. I can be annoying :o

Yeah I kinda of figured. That is a mistake many people do, and is why I always say to take your time and read the instructions. It save a lot of headaches from getting stuck in a boot loop, etc...

I got as far as installing cm, but about midway the android dude lays down and I get a message that it can't install. I'm downloading a different file from cm to see if that's the problem.

Hi there tnsmileychick I see your having some issues with this AOSP rom, best thing to do is, one make sure your rooted and you have a recovery installed, it doesn't matter whether its ICS or JB as far as the rom your on now, just as long as your rooted and have recovery setup. Get with me and we will get your fixed up.....:)

Thanks Doc. I have ICS on my phone at them moment and I'm rooted. I'm not totally sure if I have a recovery. I have clockworkmod recovery installed. Is that what I need?
I just can't seem to get cm to install. It's getting frustrating. I have to work a little this am, but I'll be back on later this evening. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm not sure how to do that. I'm going to start with fresh downloads and try again. I was talking Codegerm and I'm thinking about trying slimbean instead of cm. Where should I start?

What i would suggest is downloading to your machine, move the zip over to your ext sd card, boot into recovery either twrp or cwm, flash from ext sd and then flash slims gapps and then reboot, the only thing im not sure about is if you have recovery installed or not, when you go into recovery do you see clock world recovery.:)

I do have clockwork recovery. My problem at the moment is that I can't get any files onto my sd card. I have no idea why... I've tried doing it via usb and also just putting my sd card into laptop. I keep getting a notice that the disk is protected and I should change the permissions. I've done that, but still the error comes up. That's if I'm using the sd card alone. When I try using the usb port (and I've tried all of them on my computer) I get an error saying the device has been disconnected or isn't responding. RAWR!!! lol

Has anyone tried slim bean 4.3. Is it stable, bugs/issues. He didn't list any but said they could pop up. Anyone having any Issues?
