Root D2ext rom's

I have only used A2sd Roms but now thinking of using D2ext Roms. I have a few questions first,

1. Other than speed, do D2ext Roms offer any other advantages?

2. Is it true that nandroid backups do not work on D2ext Roms as recovery does not recognise the 2nd partition?

3. Any disadvantages?

4. Anything else I need to know?

Thanks

1. dont get it twisted, d2ext is not faster than a standard a2sd rom infact its slower. the newer versions of data2ext/whatever are slightly faster than original data2sd as they have tweaked slite3 to perform better but no its not faster than standard a2sd (quadrant gives a higher io score but its due to how it writes the database files not real life usage)

2. clockwork and amonRA2.0.1 backup the entire partition. its only amonRA 2.0.0 that didnt

3. slight realtime speed loss but its negligible to be honest and is supposed to be quite stable now its matured a bit however it will reduce the life of the sdcard due to the amount of work it puts on it

4. how longs a piece of string, this is dev stuff were talking. we can go as deep or as vague as you like.

speak with droidzone. his starburst rom was built to work with data2whatever/ext and he knows a lot about it

Thanks, very good reply.

If D2ext is slower than there is no point me.switching to it. I might as well stick to the A2sd of insertcoin.

So amonRA will backup both partitions on D2ext Roms?

what do you mean?
the old data2ext used 1 sd-ext partition and a fat32 partition

are you saying they use 2 ext partitions? please link as i must admit im not up to date

Looking at the insertcoin and rcmix HD thread on xda, it recommends 2 ext partitions and a swap for D2ext.

you dont need to backup swap
god knows why any rom on desire needs a swap partition. it rarely runs out of memory

ok i see, you only need to be concerned about the primary ext partition being backed up and the second one is for sqlite3 and the 3rd is swap

personally i would s-off and make a custom mtd layout. its less bullshit and more space for data so a2sd can have far more on it.

if you have that many apps installed that you max out your data partition (on a custom one like mine) then the phone will be running like a pig anyway
