Damageless ROM?!

Grrr... I really want to try the ROM out but I am going on a trip for 2 weeks. I really can't afford to have any problems and I am leaving my laptop at home. Oh well, maybe the Mar 26 2.1 release date rumor will be true and we will have a 100% working 2.1 ROM when I get back. You all have fun playing!

No worries mate! I am on vacation using a borrowed laptop, and everything was schmoove. No sdk/adb shell needed. All you need is a usb cable I suppose, unless you tried to download it directly to your phone.

For me, it was worth the risk of doing it away from a computer with the sdk and my other backups on it.

there's people giving out invites in the xda forums..you just have to ask..

if you point your cell phone to m.google.com/voice you may not need an invite... It seems that if you go through the mobile site no invite is required. At least it worked for me anyways...

Trying this now, thanks.

I was able to download the Google Voice app from the market but still no account.

Quick couple of questions before I jump:

1) I am running Fresh 1.1. If I do a nandroid backup right before wiping and flashing DC1, can I simply go back to Fresh 1.1 (if needed) by restoring the nandroid? Or would I wipe, and reload Fresh 1.1?

2) Do you lose all your apps when you wipe? If I backup my apps with My Bachup Pro can I simply restore them once I get DC1 up and running?

3) Can I use Flipz kitchen to add/remove apps from DC1?

4) Any other words of advice? I am new to moding and love messing with my phone.

Some people seem to be able to just wipe and restore the nandroid, others (like me), seem to have to wipe, flash the original version of Fresh 1.1, then reload the backup. Not real sure why there's a difference

2) Do you lose all your apps when you wipe? If I backup my apps with My Bachup Pro can I simply restore them once I get DC1 up and running?
Wiping clears your apps, yes. But if you've got them backed up with any type of program, you should be able to restore them easily (assuming you have that backup program back onto the ROM lol)

3) Can I use Flipz kitchen to add/remove apps from DC1?
I doubt it. I would guess that apps are stored slightly differently on 2.1 than they are on 1.5. It's EXTREMELY simple to remove or add apps/files through adb though

4) Any other words of advice? I am new to moding and love messing with my phone.

Make a backup, always make a backup. And just have fun with it. Trial and error is one of the best ways to learn with this type of thing.

I'm not a huge poster over at xda and didn't feel comfortable asking for an invite. I just bought one on ebay for $1.30

Only took a few minutes.

so i got it flashed re-downloaded and wiped my ext and it booted got everything how i want now and am really liking this rom so far tomorrow will be the test though and see how i like it while actually using it.

what happens when i wipe my sd cards ext?

i backed up my sd card and when the rom booted i still had all my stuff from my sd so does that not wipe it clean or what?

it erases your sdcards ext partition. windows naturally can't see that type of format. You store all your data on a fat32/ntfs partition on the card which you can see. That stuff wasn't effected.

If you wan't to see what's on your ext partitions you can download one of the following, to have a peek.

There is a MMS fix (patch) for the DC ROM.

HTML:

People in that thread have said it works.

I agree with Slade's post above. I loaded this ROM last night and so far it's been incredible. No problems at all with any of the functions I use regularly.

Great ROM, I switched from Fresh 2.0b2, another good one IMO. I have Google Voice for international calls, but the voicemail is not a great work around for me. I completely understand why Sprint VVM cannot be implemented, I miss it a lot (spoiled by the convenience), but as it's only a temporary setback, it's not a deal breaker for me. Other than the VVM thing, I'm having an excellent experience with this ROM, getting good battery life, and I'm enjoying it as my daily driver until a Sprint version can be optimized and flashed. Thank you Damageless.

I haven't had any probs sending a text yet. Are you using stock messenger, handcent or chomp?
Tried all three and the stock messenger is the only one that works. Handcent works, but claims not to. Chomp doesn't work at all. Ugh. I might need to go back to Fresh 2.0b2

I didn't miss any updates with the ROM today, did I? Or any new issues and fixes? I haven't been able to check the threads since like 20 hours ago, and now I'm like 400 posts behind lol

dude! the ROM it's working perfectly fine..

I haven't gotten no FC's at all..

MMS send/receive pic/txt works..

cam/video works ...

there's no visual voicemail though, i been using google voice to replace for now and that fixed that problem..

the rom it's really fast...

there's minor issues..lights don't light up..but that can be ignored.

i say you should try it..

I really appreciate your guy's support, but I think it will be better for me to wait. I really can't afford to have "any" problems with my phone while I am away. It's killing me not flashing this ROM though. I will be back from my trip on the 26th and I will flash then, if there is not a better 2.1 ROM available of course. Thanks again! :D

You might wanna wipe and clear your cache's, then reflash bud. Sounds to me like something didnt take right when you flashed the rom. Mine seems to run perfectly, I have not had a single issue since I flashed v1.

No new fixes that I've seen, some additions like stock android keyboard as well as icon changes and things like that, tho. Got my UI pretty custom and I'm pretty geeked about it hehe.

you could always nandroid your current rom, flash the 2.1 and if you end up having issues just do a nandroid back to fresh 1.1 on the go hehe :D

Yah, I know. I even updated to the new recovery img. I am all ready to have a go at it. I am just wimping out on it right now. I got a working ROM now and logic tells me I can wait until I get back. I'll let you guys help find any remaining bugs while I am away. ;)

As of 4pm today (Saturday), still the same 1.0 as yesterday.

I'm gonna give this ROM a shot. I have a quick question though. I've done a nandroid backup, and I downloaded Titanium Backup to try and back up my apps. However, I can't figure out how to actually back them up? I go into the batch section and run the "back up user apps" batch, but nothing seems to happen.
