Damageless ROM?!

Did you reboot after your initial boot after flashing? Typically I reboot recovery, flash rom, boot rom, power down, power back on.
Everything is snappy for me, even screen rotation with the keyboard active.

They were not included in v1 release, as they don't work well at all and alot of them don't work at all.

If you wanna play with the live wallpapers, I know Fresh 2.0b has them included. You could flash that and mess with them if you really wanna. Just remember they only work with stock home, not sense UI.

Yep, I rebooted again after the initial flash boot, but it won't hurt to reboot again. I'll do that and report back. As far as live wallpapers, it's no big deal. Like I said, I was more curious than anything. I want to put this ROM through it's paces, and live wallpapers isn't too important. I may give fresh 2.0 a try, but that will only be as a comparison.

Now to report a bit of good news. One of the big issues I had with the original Sprint ROM (and it's derivatives since they were all 1.5 based) had to do with bluetooth in my car. I could make calls with no problem and talk through my audio system. However, whenever I would receive a call and answer it, the BT connection would drop (though the call wasn't disconnected). I tested this 3 times today with DamageControl and I'm happy to say that I never lost BT connection when receiving a call. So it looks like BT in Android 2.x is much better.

Yeah, visual voicemail with Damage ROM does not work. We need a leaked sprint 2.1 to get the voicemail to work properly. That's why I'm using google voice for my voicemail right now.

As far as the voicemail text message goes, since you're using handcent for text messaging, you can just go ahead and blacklist that number. You'll no longer get notified about them. Out of curiosity, do you get the voicemail notification in your notification bar as well as the text? or just the text?

If you're interested in the google voice approach to visual voicemail, you can get an invite off ebay for around $1.30 and pay through paypal. Download GV in the market and get it set up. If you follow the thread posted below, you actually get a quite nice visual voicemail system working to replace the stock sprint VVM that you're used to. :)

as far as facebook sync goes, just do a nandroid backup of your current configuration. Try the sync, and if you can't get it to work how you expect/want it to, just nandroid back to your non-facebook sync'd setup.

I got the same text message when I received the voicemail. However, I DID receive notification in the bar that I had a voicemail. I use the stock messagin app, so I need to figure a way to turn off the text notification. Also, right now my facebook syncing seems to be working right. Mind you, it took a LONG time (I'm talking a few hours) before things completely synced and I got the facebook pictures in my contact list.

I have the apk to sprint nav if you really want it, PM me your email and i'll send it to you.

I've been using google navigation and loving it though. Haven't put sprint nav back on.

Is google navigation part of google maps, or is it a separate program? In maps I was able to get driving directions, but it was only as text. I couldn't figure out how to get it to audibly give me directions.

i ended up restoring my nandroid backup because i just needed to use sprint navigation. Considering going back because i really liked it. Where did you get google navigation? Also, is it me or was there no contact list "people" like in the stock or fresh? all i got was the names of people with a transparent background and thats it.

Will probably do the switch back tomorrow, anything else i should use along with this ROM? What about the Radio thing, worth loading?

to navigate in google maps 4.0.0, search for something, then press the bubble for it... hit the navigate option! (there are also options for "show on map, get directions, street view, search nearby, and add as contact) Easy Peasy.

If you don't want to text/audio search, you can long hold at the map location to pull the menu up.

You will have to install text to speech (it will prompt you to do it the first time you try navigating). It is pretty friggin' awesome. Also, if you hit menu on the map screen then "more" you get the "labs" option to customize with other new features.

Pinch to zoom is awesome in the maps display. Other new things include layers, buzz, terrain layer, distance+heading, point-to-point measuring. Buzz is actually cool as it integrates into the mapping (twitter is stupid to me, but as someone who travels a lot, I've seen a few things buzzed on the map worth looking at).

Thanks for this quick how-to. I got the text to speech module installed, though the process acted a bit quirky. Everything is up and working with it now and I'm anxious to give it a real world test. Regarding a couple of your other points, I don't use twitter much but it has it's uses. I use it to follow the progress of the latest developments on the linux distribution I use. Also, I hear you can get amber alerts through twitter. In general though, I don't have a lot of need for it. That's kind of true for most of the social networking stuff though. I haven't tried buzz yet. Maybe I'll enable it when I go on my next trip just to get an idea of the kind of stuff you might see on it.

xda-developers - View Single Post - make Google Voice mimic Sprint Visual Voicemail!

I didn't do anything like what he suggested in blampars' link, but this one post in that thread is what you really need to know if you just use the app to set yourself up like I did. (I hate handcent). If you have problems, deactivating and reactivating on the gvoice website is a good idea (that's what fixed mine a few days ago) and gives you the correct *codes.

I never blacklisted anything, and I don't get any odd texts or notifications that need to be hidden.

Also, I didn't need a gvoice invite. I just set it up through the application.

Would you be able to share the exact steps you took? You're saying you use the gvoice app even though you don't have a gvoice account? I do have a gvoice account, but I'm not having luck getting it set up right.

I just rooted my phone and im loving it. But im having a problem with the market. It seems to run slow or something. Whenever i download an app it takes 2 to 3 minutes before the install button shows up. Does anyone know what the problem is???????

Well when you come back to Damage, i've got the sprint nav apk if you want it. Google Navigation came with the ROM, its built into google maps. If you look through your programs list, you should have a direct 'Navigation' program as well which will take you directly to it instead of opening up the maps first.

I loaded the radio the day it was posted, didn't notice a difference until the next day at work. where I was usually in 1x mode for data, I was in 3g. All day was 3g for me when I used my phone. Meanwhile a co-worker with a stock hero sitting right next to me spent most of his day in 1x. I'd say the radio upgrade is worth getting, but ultimately you'll have to decide if you think the upgrade would benefit you at all.

There are some nice graphical tweaks you can use to replace some stock/expresso type things with the rom. You can check the thread linked below.

DamageControl v1.0 Custom Files. (A Place to post what you have done) - xda-developers

So I downloaded this rom and have been running it for about 5 days.
No VVM however I am using "youmail" for that!
FB still syncs with all my contacts,
I have had no real issues with the new rom with the exception of trying access System Updates, it forces close every time.
Battery Life is about the same. WiFi tether works great!
The flash player for websites runs a little slow but I cant complain since it is an upgraded flash player.
I am having issues sending MMS messages as well.

All in all so far not a bad rom. Waiting to see if some of the issues will be fixed!

Mine seems a bit slower too, but it's nothing I can't deal with. I may do another wipe plus wipe the SD card, then reflash. I read that may speed things even more (though I'm working great right now). I just need to check what will be erased when I wipe the ext partition on my SD card.

What, if any, problems would there be with going from Fresh 1.1 to DamageControl 1.0?

I wouldn't expect any, since you're essentially having to do a wipe then reflash...but I just wanted to check.

Pretty interested in doing this tonight/tomorrow.

Provided you wipe before flashing Damage, you should not run into any problems going from fresh 1.1 to this.

I migrated from 1.1 to DC v1 w/o any issues.

I have a bit of an issue with the Voicemail notification. It keeps saying I have 4 new voicemail messages through my carrier, even though I am using Google Voice. Not sure why. The notification pops up regardless of what I am using. If I call my number, it says I have NO messages in my inbox. I don't know how to stop it from happening. I have cleared it three times in the past two minutes.

that's strange. have you tried to reboot your phone?

^Have you tried clearing it TWO times in THREE minutes?

:)

Actually the only thing I can think of is making sure that your phone settings are set to use Google Voice (seems like it is step 4 in the GV configuration on firts run)

Edit:
Check-

Settings->Call->Voicemail Service

and make sure it Shows you're using Google Voice.

It does show it. I even tried doing it manually, going through the steps on the Google Voice website. It just popped up again too.

I have not tried to reboot the phone blampars, but this wasn't happening yesterday when I first installed the ROM.

well maybe just try clearing it once every 4 minutes. ;)

on a more serious note, the only reason i asked was that any time i've had issues on previous ROMS (none on DCv1 yet, knock on wood) that I couldn't fix, a simple reboot of the phone seemed to even things out and calm down any wonky issues I had.

I know it seems like a relatively stupid thing to ask you, but it has worked for me in the past, so I figured I would ask.

Yeah, the reboot didn't help. It also prompted me to login to my Google account again. I am thinking that I am going to RUU the phone and go back to stock and re-root the phone. And just stick with 1.5 for now.

Other then a factory reset, no. I can't clear the Dalvik cache unless I am using ADB for whatever reason anyways. The battery and rotation screen I don't think would have mattered.

well, maybe as a last resort, try flashing the rom over itself? i dunno man, that sucks your having VM issues :-/

I think I would try reflashing (no wipe) first, then revert back to your 1.5 ROM if it's still acting up.
