Help Danger of avoiding low memory warning.

Constantly running into the low memory warning when installing new apps and as I'm still on 2.1 so
have no option to move any to sd card. I usually just remove a large game or something to make some room. But as I was struggling to find anything I could live without I decided to ignore the warning for a few days. I still had 20 mb left I think.
Took me 2 days to realize I wasn't getting any emails or text messages, and another hour playing around till I decided to clear some memory to see if that fixed the problem. Pile of missed messages came through as soon as I deleted some apps.
Probably a known problem for most of you but not something that I had heard of or which had occurred to me, seems obvious now.
Wish they would hurry up and update me to 2.2 now.
 
2.2 is due in the next few weeks so will hold out a bit longer. I am getting more tempted to play with mods now the phone is getting on a bit will be a little less gutted if I brick it now.
 
lol If its not that far around the corner then i would wait. As they say, best not to mess with things if you don`t know what your doing

I had the same problem yesterday. Weird thing is that I didn't receive a couple of texts in the morning when I wasn't getting low space warnings, then later in the day I installed a couple of apps and got the low space warning. Then I wasn't getting any texts or emails. I removed some apps to clear some space and all the missed texts and emails came through. I have a rooted 2.1 Milestone.
 
Same happened to me. Is there an app so all messages go straight to memory card?

Just wondered where can i get app2sd? Its not showing up on my market. And only found fakes online when i've searched :(
