When an update is released for Das Bamf, do you have to wipe data and cache or can you just install it over what you already have like updates in CyanogenMod(ex:6.1 to 6.2 you could just install 6.2 over 6.1)

Technically, you can not wipe when flashing the same build. That being said, it's not the smartest idea in the world. Doing a full wipe will ensure that the ROM is running as smoothly and without hiccups as possible. When in doubt wipe

you can try and "update" without wiping your data, but make a backup first. sometimes the update works just fine, but sometime you may have prollems ranging from bootloops to bluetooth or wifi not working to apps force closing.

if you do flash over the old version, wipe cache and dalvic cache, and if you do have prollems, try a fresh install before you get on the internet and blame the rom to be bad. ;)

edit:looks like worm was typin at the same time :)

if you do experience issues i would wipe the device clean and reinstall before trying to get help from the dev on xda that created the rom. It really helps cut down on trying to find bugs that might not be real.

No, you don't need to wipe Data. Just nandroid, wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache then flash the update.

Usually the dev will let you know whether to wipe data or not as will other users that have flashed before you. Not sure about the new 1.5 coming any day now.

Fwiw adrynalyne mentioned he doesn't wipe unless he had a problem on the first try. I've never wiped anything when loading roms on my incredible or TB. No issues. Always make a nandroid though.

As mentioned above, if you experience any issues devs will always request you wipe before requesting support.

Anyone know what this new build is that Adryn is talking about? He's said he can't release it until he "gets permission", indicating it includes framework updates, like an OTA. I haven't been able to find anything about a new update from VZW. I'm not doubting him, I'm just curious

I can't figure it out unless it's GB. But it seems dev is held up until they get permission. I guess why waste your time on old code when you have a working update? This must be a closely guarded secret the way they're acting. But it's kind of exciting in a way since we'll be there first.

Another possibility is that it includes code from other developers.
It may be that this dev technically does not need permission but instead the dev is not looking to bite the hand that feeds him, if you get my meaning.

Or it could be the rom contains something from a leak that nobody knows about.

or it could be it was given to him in a dream by aliens  :D

im anxious to see what it ends up bein, too

It's definitely not gingerbread. Saw Adryn at least confirm that. I agree, it is kind of exciting, it's always kind of annoying, too, lol

edit: he could have also said that to keep expectations low, though.

im back on tesla coil, but im super curious to see what this new update is. more than likely it will be enuff to get me back on bamf :D hopin its somethin really sweet, lol.

now im trying to decide if i want to flash jcase's ruu, then flash bamf,or just flash bamf and flash the new radio zip. decisions,decicions... :D
