Data Allowance

Alright here is the list of my apps:

3g watchdog, advance task killer froyo, angry birds, astro, barcode scanner, battery life, bonsai blast, xda app, foursquare, colornote, london tube status, onpunch notes, ringdroid, robo defence, skype on 3, task panel, wifi manager and windows live messenger. Others are three live wallpaper. thats it. ...

Maybe you should get rid of all the apps (keep 3G Watchdog) and just sort the default apps. out first? Then load them one by one and set each up so that it's using minimal data? Just a thought ...

Dave

Well first off your apps are going to vary between 100kbps and 13mb.

Don't forget that OTA update if you did it over 3G
Background sync on Friend Stream.
How often is it set to send recieve emails?

Alright, thanks. Will try that out later.

Alright, thanks. Will try that out later.

As my PM inbox is getting full and I refuse to upgrade just for the fact to get more PM's i'll respond direct to this.

1: That I downloaded using wifi.
2: Oh really? I think that should be the one causes me to use so much of data. So if I wanna download any apps I should use wifi instead of 3's network, right. hmm..
3: Too bad my Hall doesn't have wifi. :( So most of your core apps you set it update manually? Gonna give a try later. I set all my apps to manual update/refresh except email. lol.

I tend to keep all my downloads of apps and update of them via wifi, simply because its quicker.

I don't let any of my apps auto update full stop simply because I like to be in control of what goes off :)...Go to market place, and then downloads, go in all your apps and untick this.

How long does your mail refresh?
Is it IMAP or POP?

I only use mobile networks for when I am not in a wifi area, IE trains, work (as they won't let me use it lol), etc

My inbox is getting full too. LOL

Which market place? android market place?
My mail refresh every 1 hour. one is POP and another one is Gmail.
I set both of it to manually refresh. Getting phobia of mobile data already. LOL.

I tried all the apps and looks like facebook and foursquare used up the most data. After setting all apps to refresh manually my data stop running. I mean stop going up. LOL. But I have to untick Background Data because my data still going up if I don't untick it but not a very high margin.

Hmm.. i thought public wifi need to pay? No? My area here the public wifi is under BTzone or something and I needed to pay to access their wifi. I never experience free wifi before in UK (my area, Birmingham). LOL..

Anyway, thanks Spencer. Learn a lot of things today. =D

Quick question. My DHD has arrived today (I'm at work though and it's at home :( ) and I have BT Broadband which gives me free Wifi at hotspots. If I leave wifi on will it automatically connect to hotspots and use that data instead of my 3G as I wander about places? Ie. if I walk into a coffee shop, will it auto connect and when I leave it will revert back to 3G?

I *believe* that the wifi access point has to be manually connected first then it'll do what you want automatically. At least, that's what happens at home for me with the home wifi. Not tried any public access points yet.

ive downloaded 3G watchdog and im not convinced it's 100% accurate. Ive been on unlimited internet allowance for over a year and the max i ever 'accomplished' was 300MB in a month.

Im now on a 500MB cap - had the phone 3 days and it says ive used 60MB already.

This is after i stopped various background services. I now only have gmail (push) and weather set for every 3 hours, which i may change cause I have windows in my office lol.

I do have the htc like widget and not sure whether this uses anything?

Surpirsed by my usage because Ive used a fair bit of wifi in my house as well!

Heh i'm on three and my mobile data isn't even working. Supposed to have someone call me up today to get it sorted. Still waiting for him. Other people have said that Watchdog 3G isn't 100% accurate. Only use it for estimations

You can have wireless enabled on the phone and it will locate them, but you have to connect manually to it.

correct..It can't automatically connect as the MAC hardware keys are different on each router

I always go by 3G watchdog for simple reason being its about 2mb out according to my Orange bills I got which show the data usage :)

I am a newbie to Android and plan to get a HTC Desire HD. I travel a lot overseas and need to manage my email downloads to minimise costs while ovreseas. I know that gmail apps can allow us to see the header alone. But can I just open specific emails of interest (ie download these) and control whether it downloads attachments?

I have no issues within Australia as I have a mobile broadband cum wi-fi router.
