Help Data Being Used Secretly

Can you provide more information?

-What device are you using?

-What app is the notification coming from? Pull down the notification shade and long press on the notification; should tell you which app it is coming from.

-Did this just start? Have you recently installed a new app that might be causing this?

-Have you installed any apps that are not from the Play Store?

Hi Brian,

The device is an Android tablet, 4.4.2

Apparently the notification is coming from the DU Battery Saver

It has been happening for a couple of weeks I think.

I may have installed a new app but don’t recall if I did.

I don’t believe I have installed any apps that are not from the Play Store.

Does the message indicate that someone may be spying on me? Thanks for your help.

Uninstall all DU Apps.
DU battery saver is not saving your battery, and is likely the cause of your problem.

I have taken a screen shot but don't know how to post it on the site

Easy-peasy :).

Below the reply box at the bottom of the thread are three buttons: Post Reply, Upload a File, and More Options.

When you press the Upload a File button, it will give / show you a file selection dialog, just navigate to your image and select Open.

That file will then appear in your post when you hit the Post Reply button.

That was easy, thanks to your very clear instructions. Thank you.

^^^ Yeah, that's very clearly the "DU Battery" app...

I'm guessing that if you click / touch that notification, it will tell you all about their other app:

DU Speed Booster is an Android optimizer & cleaner master with a FREE built-in antivirus security feature. It can boost the speed of your phone by up to 60%, cleans junk (cache) files from your system, and increases the available storage space on your SD card. It is a total Android phone optimization solution that combines the advanced functionality of an apps task cleaner, speed and ram booster, storage (junk & cache) analyzer, security antivirus guard and protection master for

Cross app "promotion" (spamming? :p).

Why would the app produce a message saying "data secretly being used"? I have uninstalled the app.

Simply because they want you to install and use their other app...

I don't know the exact criteria for why their app would say this, but I'm not sure we have to...it's almost certainly just a ploy and not a true vulnerability. After all, it's being reporting by a battery monitor app and NOT an anti-virus app.

That should tell you a bit about where their thoughts/efforts are here vs. giving you a good battery monitor experience (and there are plenty of other battery monitors out there that won't nag you about unrelated things).

Because some authors want you to click on it and install another data mining app that sends your data to China.

As @scary alien suggested, if you click the notification it may promote one of their other apps to "fix" the issue. It's somewhat of a common thing; you see it on computers all the time. Popups scaring you into installing something to protect yourself.
