Help Data problems

Ok so I upgraded to this phone today, from an original motorola droid. I seem to be having some data problems, I'm not getting much of a data connection. This first couple of hours I had the phone, the data connection was fine and I was getting 4G service. However, I later left the house and went a few places and got no data at all, not even 3G (in places where I got 3G on the droid). I just got home and am now not even getting data here like I was when I brought the phone home. I'm not sure what the problem is, can anyone help me out here? Why am I not getting data even in places where I got it on my old phone?

I live in the boston area if it matters....I got the phone from radioshack

Also, apparently, if I turn airplane mode on and off then I get a data connection for about 30 seconds, and then it disappears again....not really getting this at alll

Nothing really, much like turning airplane mode on and off, I'll have data connection for like 30 seconds and then it will disappear

I'm having the same issue. It will connect to the data network for a short period, usually a minute or two and then disconnect. I'm in an area where I have a good signal and have had no problem connecting to the network before. This problem seemed to develop sometime yesterday.

When I'm connected I can get online and navigate to sites just fine but after a few minutes the connection drops out and won't come back. I have also noticed that when I shut the screen off and come back to the phone after sometime, it is connected to the data network and transfering just fine. But the connection still only lasts a few minutes and seems to die when I start to use it.

Aha, that explains it. Thank you for sharing that, se22. I haven't had any data service whatsoever since about 4pm Tuesday evening. I live in the NYC area. 5 bars though so at least I can still make calls and send texts.

That could explain it. I'm between Boston and Worchester and have had intermittent data service for over a day now, both 3g and 4g. I have also been having a problem with connecting to some wifi connections such as my apartment router, but I think that is a problem with my equipment, not sure tho.

Add me in Philly to this list.

I'm not convinced this is a Verizon problem just yet. I have been thinking a flaw with the hardware or software of the Stratosphere. The reason I have been going down this path is the phone won't give me ANY data connection. I'm not ready to say that because the 4G LTE network is having problems my phone isn't the culprit. Why not go to 3G or 1x?

Symptoms:

When my phone first boots up it generally gets a 4G LTE connection. After a minute or two I get no data connection at all. If I stare at the phone long enough it may periodically get a 3G or 4G connection but then die almost immediately. I can generally get a data connection back if I go into airplane mode and then turn it off (enabling connections).

This issue started around 3pm yesterday and has been ongoing.

Here is a thread I think may be related:

In the DC/Metro area, I am currently floating between no Data and 1X, called verizon and they said the outage is still existent but no ETA for it.

I've started having some troubles today as well, in the Denver/Boulder area. I eventually gave up and it picked up 3G again on its own.

Same here in Pittsburgh. When I'm not in range of wifi I feel like I'm using a phone from 3 years ago.

Tell me about it! On my drive home from work I had to listen to AM radio instead of stream Google Music. My life felt cold and hopeless.

My Stratosphere seems to be behaving okay for now. I'm on 4G again and it doesn't seem to be coming in and out.

Is there something with these phones that it won't just go to 1x or 3G?

It should, but the problem is that it sees a 4G signal, but there is an error on the 4G network that won't let your phone authenticate... thus no data connection. If there was no 4G signal at all, it would drop to 3G->1x.

Looks like everything is Hunky Dorey today.
