Root data security

One LESS point for HTC for implementing this. I'm not sure how to think of this. I know I wasn't very happy with it was announced that Apple does this all the time (except the fact it reassured me to not buy an iPhone!)

I'm still not quiet sure what I think of this, either way I got, it's somewhat shocking, but at the same time, almost expected, because the manufacturers are trying to protect themselves with phones that they have the option to unlock bootloaders on, even if you don't go through HTC they would be able to find out.

^Did any of that gibberish make sense to you guys?

If someone flashes the stock rom I am sure they will have the same folders. I checked my /data/system and I have the folder they said was from Google none of the HTC ones however. I'm not that worried about it but I am curious to find out what happens when I start deleting the info in that and the dropbox folder.

The dropbox one is odd. While dropbox is extremely popular, not everyone uses it. I wonder if it stores information that makes sure all the data survives upgrades via the market or something else that is a totally legit purpose. Dropbox is very simple to use, but it hides a relatively complicated synchronization process under that veneer of simplicity. The rollback function has saved my butt a few times. I poked around in the windows XP files that dropbox creates and saw no scary looking 500 file directory. There is one directory that had maybe 30 files (binary).

I don't have an "appusagestats" or "HTCAppUsageStats" folder. Like Yeahha said maybe on a stock ROM??

i dont have them either, wich makes sense since were all using roms based on AOSP code and not on an htc rom.

i wish id see that a couple days ago while i was still on the leaks  idk if the files would have been there or not. the article only mentions the evo and sensation. its pretty vauge... i wonder what evo? id kind of assume the new 3d,but i guess could be others

This reminds me of the code that jcase found buried in libs back before we had GB leaks. Adrynalyne made a zip that nuked the files for his BAMF ROMs. IIRC, the files were similar, but from Google and they could tell if you were rooted, etc. At the time I thought it was going to be a big deal, but it didn't receive much play at all. Maybe it was a mini rick roll that failed miserably :p

I would think nothing to really worry about until someone tries to get a warranty replacement and HTC or vzw says"no you rooted your phone "
