Help Dead Nexus?

Namrak

Android Expert
I got my replacement gnex today and tested it for the day. All was well until a few minutes ago when my screen suddenly turned green with white lines running across. I couldnt do anything so i removed the battery after a few mins and put it back in. Now my phone wont even turn on. Please Help me!!! How can I get this thing to turn back on????

Edit: PLEASSSSEEEEE HELP!!!! I am unlocked and rooted so I cant just send the phone back without flashing back to stock

This will sound silly, but try a different battery.

I don't have another battery, but I do have another gnex (they sent me a refurb and I didn't get a chance to send my original back yet). Anyways, the battery worked in the original phone (refurb still won't power on) so I don't think that could be it.

What method did you use to root and unlock? What was the problem that you had to get your first one replaced??

To unlock I did the fast boot method and rooted using CWM. On the first one the power button became almost completely unresponsive

I see. The only reason I suggested was I had that same problem one time and for some reason switching batteries solved it. Never had a problem with that battery before or since then. But if you don't have another battery to try it, then its a moot point anyway.

If you can't get it to power on at all then you have two options:

1. Send it back and pray they don't find out its rooted/unlocked.
2. Do an insurance claim. If you're like me and don't have insurance you can buy some through different companies, such as Ensquared. Though they usually have a restriction that you can't file a claim for 30-60 days after starting a new policy.

Have you tried plugging it into your computer to see if your PC recognizes it all? Could it be the phone still technically functions but the screen is dead? If that's the case you may be able to lock/unroot it, albeit blindly though.

Those are my only suggestions.

Maybe if the Google/Motorola buyout goes through, Google will produce phones with a warranty that isn't voided by rooting/unlocking. Obviously root wouldn't cause your problem so its silly that it won't be covered. Silly, but unfortunately its still true.

Keep us updated.

I kept the battery out overnight and put it back in the refurb this morning. I was finally able to turn it back on but it kept bootlooping. Anyways, I was able to flash stock, unroot, and lock. The phone is working okay now, and I'm currently running it as stock. I will probably call for a replacement again though as I don't want to take the chance of having this as a recurring issue (especially when I unlock again).

Not ever happening you root and mess up your fault not google, verizon or anyone else problem.

Glad you got it working and was able to unroot and lock again!! I agree, send it back and get a new one. It is possibly a hardware failure that will rear its ugly head again.

Two major flaws in your logic, though. One, you assume the OP caused the problem by rooting and state it as fact. Unless you work for Samsung and you actually examine the device yourself, it would be impossible for you to be able to state that as fact. This also tells me you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what root is and what it does.

Two, unless you personally make those kind of decisions on behalf of Google or Motorola, then you are not in a position to say it will never happen. It may not happen, but I would venture to guess that Google would be far more open to the idea than any other manufacturer. You know, considering the fact they provide the tools to unlock the phone and their whole philosophy is an open platform.

Thanks for your opinion though!
