Root Dead thread.

Bummer. But thanks a lot for all your updates and hard work Acidbath.
Maybe we'll get lucky , if not I'll be upgrading to the Incredible or N1 when released. Was hoping I could make my Eris perform better to hold me off till 2011 but ohh well.. It's just a phone life goes on
 
Syv, that's harsh. Give these guys a break. If you are going to be hard on them, then go ahead and do what they were doing. Mind you, all the time they spent doing this was free because they enjoy doing it. If they decide to stop, then that's their choice. They may have been confident in rooting the Eris, but obviously they hit some unexpected difficulties in doing so. Don't flame others when you can't do it yourself and you aren't paying them to do something for you. You are NOT entitled to get root.

Once again, the entitlement mentality takes over in some people, which is very unfortunate. You cannot blame others for not being able to do something for you for free when you cannot even do it or work on it yourself. You have just been sitting back and checking the forums every so often to see the progress. How has that been contributing? And now you expect them to keep going as hard as they were just so YOU can have root? Selfishness, pure selfishness.

To the Devs, and especially Acid who has been hanging out here, thanks for your hard work and efforts. I greatly appreciate the free time you have invested into attempting to root this phone, but if you all feel it's not going to happen, or if you aren't enjoying it, then please move on to greener pastures. :) You are not obligated to do what you have been doing, a service for the rest of us.

The really super talented Devs deserve most of the thanks, I only really got involved because it seemed like all the Devs were leaving and going to give up, so I wanted to make one last attempt to bring them all together and moderate all the flaming.
In the end it wasnt "Fun" anymore, so yeah, was time to move on.

On a positive note, I cant wait to get 2.1 on my phone :)
I was talking to an "Insider" that had come by our Dev Team, and he is a tester and says that things are looking solid on the 2.1 he is testing and thats something to look forward too :)
Along with the Verizon/nexus 1 rumors :)

Also there are some Devs still working, just quietly.
I would imagine from what I know, that once 2.1 comes out Root will be easier.
But by then I hope to see all of you moved on to Nexus 1, and we cant start projects and ROMS there together :)
 
Syven your attitude and post is what burned the devs out. Why don't you take some time to think about what you posted and not post again until you do?

Agreed. :( Thanks to acidbath though, and the rest of the devs, for the hard work. Hate to see a hobby become so overrun with negativity. I hope that what acidbath said about root being easier after 2.1 comes true, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

Eris owners should be getting accustomed to waiting for things by now... ;)

In WinMo, it was easy to make a cab file and install it on the phone once you did an RUU. Most of the Roms in WinMO were cooked, to get rid of the bloatware or add some. I have seen RUU's FOR the Eris. Just from some common sense thinking, all that would need to be done is for the Eris Radio version to be added in to N1 2.1 update. So in that theory, wouldn't it work? I understand that this is not actually ROOTING the phone, but it does open up some new ideas. Now he also said that it wouldn't work on Windows. What about DOS? That is still command line prompt/script, and as we all know, DOS is linux "based". If it won't work on a Windows PC, what about a Mac OSX?

What part of Chesterfield? I lived there for a few years before moving back into the city. You make very valid points that I didn't think about while I was posting.

Does anyone have an Eris they would like to try the "update" with if someone can build it?

Now, how many people would care not to have Sense?

Thanks again Acid, for the effort and your contributions to Android Forums. Hopefully 2.1 will reveal some new exploits and we will eventually achieve root!

God what an a.. crack. See this is the kind of crap that people with creative minds have to put up with. It only takes one loser to ruin it for everyone. Myself I loved watching the progress and had hoped to be able to fix stuff like MMS (being on Cricket and all) but had resigned to accepting what I had. Acid, it was a pleasure watching the updates and it really sucks that people feel like they are owed this. Its like I purchased a single engine plane and expect to get the second engine because I paid for the first. What an ungrateful piece of ..... Well you all can fill in the blanks. Its state wide no curse week here in California, haha what crap. :rolleyes:

I was really looking forward to root, but its good to know that when 2.1 comes out we have people who are not only talented enough to attempt to figure out root on the phone, but people who are willing to spend so much of their time doing something that everyone else seems to be too lazy to figure out how to do themselves. I am actually kind of happy you have decided to stop -- of course, if its not fun you should stop. Now you are saving your time and energy for when we get 2.1 and we can look for more exploits. That sounds exciting doesn't it?! Well, not to me, but maybe to you. Again, thanks so much for all the hard work for us. Don't feel like you have lost time over this. You were just working on eliminating possibilities of root in 1.5... and now we know. I really look forward to 2.1, and hopefully we will get root in the future. I just have to say thanks again. THANKS.

Gonna hope for Nexus 1 on Verizon and making ROMs and working on that with everyone to :)

I'm excited for the upcoming Android phones on VZW , and now I know when I get the system update I don't have to resist the temptations to download I can just download lol

How do you like the HD2

It is AMAZING!
The screen is HUGE, and the 1ghz procs is so so fast!
When I am messing around with TF3D 2.5 aka Sense, I cant keep up with it!
But to be honest it is really kinda old to me already, i have had the same stuff running pretty fast on my Touch Pro 2.
So other than actual Hardware and Form, its nothing new really...
I am going to hold onto it and unload it and get a Nexus 1 once that comes to Verizon :)
Android really is the next greatest thing :)
I do love my WinMo 6.5.5 builds, but they are essentialy being fased out for WinMo 7, and I dont know what to think of that yet....
Im gonna keep messing with my TP2 and start looking forward to really dumping time into Nexus 1 and android development there when the time comes :)

I really liked the idea of the HD2 , just not the WinMo

Come on people, if I wanted to hear about the Nexus One or HD2, I would have joined the girl scouts. The Eris is the best phone for many reasons, mainly because of the small footprint it will leave on this earth. Since the devs aren't working on rooting the Eris, that will save a lot of energy that would have been used to power the computers. So thanks for thinking about the earth devs!!!

I haven't read into it yet but can you dual boot the hd2 with android yet? a rooted android? Then just running a copy of sense and you have a sick phone... maybe amoled might step it up a notch? I have the old htc vogue booting into android.

Anyone use amoled phone? is the battery any better or just the contrast?
 
Jeeeeezzzzz trevar, it was just a joke. You know, you say something a little witty and other people with a good sense of humor will most likely pick up on it. Then both of you have a good laugh about it. ERIS ROOT (had to put something in there about eris...)
