Root Dead thread.

Just wanted to share my appreciation to all the devs working on this root!

I cant wait to get rid of footprints, stocks, quickoffice and peep!
Im also excited about bootloader access and overclocking!
I want my eris to be FAST!

I have a question though.
With root access, will it give you the ability to INSTALL and RUN apps to/from the SD card? Instead of taking up valuable phone memory?

That's one of the main reasons for roots. I want to overclock and add PEEP to my SweeterHomePreview2 Home

awesome!
I've already figured out ways to put .apk files on the SD card so i dont have to go to the market everytime i want to get an app, but I hate that we have to install them on what little internal memory we have on the Eris.. it would be nice to be able to install and run them on the SD card.

All the same reason I want to root aswell. Tired of the keyboard lag.

In a shit mood right now, so I'll go ahead and spread the spirit. Say some idiot messes up what with the baseband and radio settings and all that jazz. Is this forum ready for a whole new set of complaint-threads? You know, something that doesn't exist yet, like Eclair on the Eris, gets enough threads as it is. What'll you do when you deal with official 2.1 threads, 2.1 ROM threads, and "lolwtf is rooting??????" threads?

make a new rule, that requires people with the question "wtf is rooting" to read a breakdown of it before posting, and if they don't... immediate deletion and ban!

LMAO

Well, considering we don't have a root yet... Well...
Also I assume most of the people in this forum are on the techie side, and we'll probably have a sticky on rooting too.

What is a forum without idiots, complaint threads, and release questions? Makes for some daily fun. Cheer up dude! You own an Eris and that's enough to make you happy at least for a year of your life. :D

Probably not. I'm sure if that site's owner had been keeping tabs on it, he would have at least announced the Eris kernel being released for those that didn't know. Probably not someone from XDA. I could be wrong, but their site is supposed to go up soon, I doubt he'd have a blog on the side.

Actually, that is zifnab and he is on our team, one of our Devs.
I believe he started that blog before he joined our team.

im not trying to be impatient but does anyone have an estimate when the rooting will be done.

Dude... That isn't the kind of first post that'll get you fans around here...

Obviously if the devs knew something they'd hook us up with some info. And if they did, I'm 100% sure its up to them to let us know.

Hope this helps your question :D

Ah, corrected. Just seemed a bit outdated as far as updates went.

I know nothing about figuring this stuff out, but the Nexus One was rooted before it even came out and the Droid was rooted shortly after it was released. What they have in common, though, is that they're completely Google phones, with no add-ins from their manufacturers. I guess a better comparison would be to see how long after a phone released with extras from the manufacturer (like a Motorola phone with BLUR or another HTC phone with Sense, although I doubt there was another HTC phone released with Sense, but I could be wrong ((Hero, maybe?))) and how long it took to root those phones.

The Nexus One was by far the easiest to root. Just a simple fastboot flash. I suspect Google left that open by design. The Hero and the Tattoo both have the Sense UI. Unfortunately, the exploit that gave Hero users root was patched before the Eris was released.

It's only a matter of time before Eris users see root. There's always a way in. It won't be the same method/exploit as any other android phone so it's taking a bit longer to find it.

Not sure who that's directed at. In any case, I don't mind answering questions provided I know the answers. That's why I joined this forum. Although, I can see how the same question being asked over and over again could become a little annoying. It's always best to search for an answer first.

I'm also very eager for root. I've already started work on a ROM for the eris. :)

What kinds of things could we expect to see with your Rom?

How the hell can someone estimate a time frame for something that they don't know how to implement yet ? If they knew how long it would take, that means they'd know what to do and how to do it !

We're very fortunate to have some folks here who have the knowledge to get into and implement the rooting process for Eris users.

And VERY fortunate to have them coming in here and posting updates as to their progress, etc.

Please, just sit back and watch it all unfold; there is no need at all to try to force the issue or to even cause them to attempt "final product" time frames: they are volunteering their efforts.

My guess is that they want root access as badly as any of us here. That's good enough for me. ;)
