The Devs have been REAL quiet about what the exploits are, so if HTC doesn't know how they got in, how are they gonna patch the hole???
At one point, they were trying known exploits in the Linux kernel and said "didn't work" and so on. There are many, many known exploits, many of which I'm sure they tried, but have said nothing.

This is why I keep asking about the kernel versions being worked with, what's included with Android 2.x, what version HTC released, and so on...

I hear ya :)
You arent being ignored.
But say we made public the 2 exploits we now have working? Then HTC which does watch XDA and what not just patched them?
That would suck...so until then we keep quiet...for the sake of all of us.

So trust me, We do know whats going on and are being as carefull as possible to make sure that we get everyone fully functioning and perfect Root and ROMS :)

Man this is some serious covert operations stuff here! Good luck devs!!!

Acid, you never told me what kind of beer you like :-)

LOL...
It is some covert stuff isnt it?
I never imagined it would be this intricate or secretive....i was so used to WinMo and that was relativley easy stuff...
I feel like I should wear a ski mask whenever I go online...lmao

And I wouldnt accept any beer or donations myself, all I want is a happy and positive and productive community with random bits of sarcasm :)

Aah a liquor guy huh? ;-)

Seriously, thanks for all the effort. People are giddy about root, myself included LOL...

Eris Dev team = MI6
HTC = Russian Government + KGB

most of us live our lives knowing that something is going on, but not exactly what. Some of us just pretend we don't know anything, some don't care, and a few are planning a CIA type espionage mission . . . . .

i mean . . . Acidbath, what do you think of WinMo 7 series

speaking of WinMo... Acid what do you think of Windows Phone Series 7?

I dunno really, I think its great that they came out with something completley different and new.
If it would of been a newer version of 6.5.x I would of said that they are dead and going to be out of the mobile Market in a year or two.
But this shows a lot of promise, still there are so many questions!
Multi tasking?
Apps?
What type of devices? Keyboards?
I do like the simplicity and tiles/apps format though...

But sad to say, I do love the WinMo build of 6.5.3 that I am using on my Touch Pro 2 now...
And with sense and all the other apps its pretty much a direct port of the HD2 but a slightly smaller screen...but with a keyboard :)

Way off topic ....sorry....

its still related to Mobile Devices, and it was a just a way to get people not to notice the CIA style break in at HTC thats being planned =]

I hope you guys figure it out. Now Verizon is saying in April. Lying bastards they are. Can never get a str8 answer from the Verizon. Wish I could help you guys somehow... My dad know's Linux pretty well. I should have him look at it too... is there a web location just for the very premise of giving me like a blueprint per say to go by to give to my dad?

Not really....
That would be our site, but its still Dev only at this point...
But if he looks at My XDA thread (in my signature below) we have a lot of info on what we have tried there, and if he does want to help out or has ideas, then he could always email me or what not :)
You can PM me for my email :)

Given the current news, is it a bad idea to update? Will it affect the root Acid?

Quoting one of our Team Devs Zifnab06:
"Once we have root, someone *me* should be able to write some code to bypass the sig checks in the android source, so we can get 2.1 *without* losing root, assuming we have root before 2.1 comes out.

Another thing to point out - my advice is DO NOT UPGRADE to 2.1 until we get root. 2.1 runs a newer kernel, meaning we could do a diff between the old kernel and the new one, and find some exploits that were patched. All in theory of course "

So I dont want to tell everyone whether to accept or not accept the upgrade/OTA once it happens.
I will say that I think it would affect whether you could Root though.
At least for sometime until we could write some code.

So with that said it is up to each individual.
We hope to have Root before 2.1 OTA rolls out, and we are pretty confident that we will.

Heh, that's what I've been saying all along....

I knew what would happen.... VZW would push out 2.x and people would get a little estatic and immediately update in their giddiness and (possibly) hurt their ability to root the phone.

Can you get clarification on this part ?

I thought once the phone is rooted, we can put a ROM for Android 1.6, 2.0, 2.x, and so on ? Whatever someone builds and the user chooses to apply. Also, I thought rooted phones don't take OTA updates anymore ?

Sorry for all of the questions, it just seems like some conflicting information.

heres a question. If the Eris gets root and 2.1 in the same day, which would YOU pick?
