Root Dead thread.

well i thought i had some work to do today, but i guess not. i just hope they find away before the 2.1 release, dunno i f i will be able to hold off the OTA. Tho the lure of apps2sd is a big pull

That is how I feel too. I really want all the new features that HTC has put into the new 2.1/Sense UI, but I also want to delete apps like amazon that I will never use, use Apps2Sd and possibly overclock a bit.

I want it all, damn it. :D

just think, having your apps on your sd card so in case you need a FR you don't need to re download everything. Plus if you upgrade to a class 6 sd it could make the apps load faster(no idea if thats true)

Typical woman...:p I must admit I'm torn as well. If root comes before 2.1, I think it will be a no-brainer, even though I am a root virgin :o. If 2.1 comes first, this will be a more difficult decision... should I wait for for root and flash a 2.1 ROM, or should I update to 2.1 and wait for the dev's to crack it??? I will probably see which comes first and make my decision then.

And why's that? On my winmo phone, all of my applications were on my flash drive except for those that were cooked in. Why not save precious system memory and space when you can?

My opinion is that root will happen before 2.1 OTA but who knows?

when ever i backed up my apps on to my sd card, got my new phone and put my sd card in, installed them but guess what now there just running through the sd card and i guess the phone it self doesnt no i have them so i get no updates for any of my apps beside a few that i re downloaded to be able to get updates.

They're not running from the SD card, they were installed to the internal memory from there. And you can't get updates because marketplace wasn't used to install them so it doesn't know they're there to update.
 
You know...I bet once we get root...2.1 will be sent OTA. HTC and Verizon are eying this forum and laughing right now!!! I wish there was a "cool" HTC rep that would let a signature leak!!! But that would be like winning the lotto... Keep up the good work devs! Show them (htc, verizon) We don't need help from and we all can do this on our own!!!
 
Wow I go away for a weekend and this place blows up!!

I thought it was possible to roll back the OTA updates... if that's the case, then what's preventing us from doing so and achieving root?

maybe the OTA is ready and HTC has it set so when the certain day/time hits the OTA becomes available. If there was a way, someone could make their phone say its the end of march and thus get said ota!

I Think that Verizon and Htc People can suck my big one, caues they are making me mad, We should have the right to have our phones rooted, this is stupid, once its rooted im gonna shove it in there faces..:D

i wouldn't do that. Just in case you drop the phone or something non relating to root breaks, you don't want them knowing its rooted. Once we get root there should be a way to undo it just in case you need to talk to verizon about the phone.

As in our phones have a date programmed into them and are waiting to *ask* for the update ? Nah... And if there were a pre-determined date, they'd go by their calendar and clock, not ours. ;)
 
Rolling back the OTAs? I thought I read in a post somewhere that this could be done, seem to remember Caddyman in the process...

Why can't we roll back and get root? Anyone?

We might be able to...but some code has to be written still on that...
Its more of a be safer than sorry type scenario :)

BTW Our Devs are working their butts off!
And so are tons of others over on XDA :)
 
Wow, OTD that's a large orange sign! I though you become a mod god for a second.

Apps2SD is bad because there's no apps without the SD and it can cause bugs I've heard from people with other rooted phones, and also because it probably loads faster from internal.
 
I just re-read the post about the Tattoo and had assumed that when the Eris came out it was running an identical version that had subsequently been patched with an OTA update. Thus my thoughts on rolling them back... but I see now that may not be the case.

Sorry all, didn't mean for my previous post to sound crass or anything :-) My bad! Just thinking about ways to get it done in my own, technologically-limited idiom :-)
