Root Debugging the Touch Screen on the Ultra

Two fingers seemed to fix it until I tried this:
Using Multi-Touch Benchmark, lightly touch with 2 or even 3 finger tips and the problem is still there. I can only get it to work normally when I past some pressure/surface area threshold regardless if I do it with 1, 2, or more fingers.

Well hell I just tried it again and 2 & 3 finger method with normal pressure and it isn't even being reliable. Seems very flakey, maybe I need to charge my fingers.

Place primary finger first... wait 1 sec... then secondary finger ... now both fingers can move freely without error.... once you lift a finger, you must start over.

With enough area/pressure that will work for me, and a single finger or thumb will work for me also, point is I have to get a certain amount of total finger tip area touching the screen before the problem seems to go away. If the primary finger is just very tip of your finger and held for a second, and then a secondary finger tip touch is added I still have the problem. Just saying I don't think it's the two points fixing the problem as much as it is the total area touching the screen fixing the problem.

that sucks to hear.... you are however the first to mention (on this forum at least) that it does not work since the phone was released.... others have also said a big thumb works, but not for most (must have to use much skin) it dont work for me:( i wish it would... one big thumb is easyer then two fingers:D imo....

(ive had this phone from the day after release coming from the prevail... i love it even with its HUGE black eye screen problem)

bro this is my one and only problem with this phone...at times it becomes a real pain...i noticed that using a screen cover makes it worse..and not cleaning the junk off of the screen..thanks for the info

Same here. I ended having to take the screen protector specifically shaped for it ($20 at radioshack) off and just threw it away =\

yep..i buy the same ones...now granted it doesnt make a huge difference as screwed up as the screen is..but a difference none the less..also after a few days of not wiping/cleaning the screen and it starts acting really annoying..

Must depend on the screen protector ... mine makes no difrents.,. I got a hard plastic one that is fingerprint resistant and smudge prof... only like 4$ on Amazon.... but no difrents with the screen problem with or without it. ..... for me. :)

I had to remove my screen protector... some no name universal I bought from a sprint kiosk for like 3 bucks... but not because of the touch screen... damn screen kept turning off when I held it away from my face during a call... it interfered with the proximity sensor.

My screen protector doesn't interfere with the touchscreen. Besides the dragging of the icons I think the touch sensitivity is fine. Just wanted to share that.

Using *#0*# touch

With significant pressure I cannot get it to skip.. only skips with easy pressure.

we must look into this.... it looks very promising.... im glad to see this work... that meant our screen are capable of working properly

Yes....but the TS driver for the Ultra is in the kernel so we might have to add a melfas source driver and then maybe re-code it.

Just briefly (because it was mentioned about a rom might fix it) I was having issues with the screen sensitivity, but after installing the custom rom it stopped. :)

What ROM? Thats kinda weird because you have to edit the kernel to get the issue fixed.

I when I got the phone it was super sensitive I could have my finger about a half inch from the screen and it would select what every I was pointing at. I was also having problems with the hands free in the car when 3.5 plug was plugged into the stereo's 3.5.

Less than a month I had put the PRIME ROM 3.5 and now have updated to the 4.0 in the last few days. Changing to the custom rom fixed both issues.

Man you must have gotten a lemon between a screen that registers your finger .5 inches away, a usb port that registers it being plugged in when its not, the 3.5 jack issue and your battery sensor... I dunno if its a good idea for you to do if your phone is unstable like that but if I were you I would look into restoring to complete non rooted stock and send that back in... no telling what other weird bugs you're gonna find down the road...

I know it's a bit crazy, the first phone got replaced within the first day because it kept freezing every time I connected anything streaming or downloading from the 3G. I went to two sprint stores before they replaced it. First store told me it was a glitch and wouldn't even look at it. Second store just replaced it.

Where there is a will there is a way, :D I am planning it out for soon it will ;) be replaced!

After a few talks with bobzhome he sent me a kernel with ICS touch screen settings but still no luck heres our convo.

Damn, nope no difference I tried with multiple touch screen app touch test and i also did it off my knownledge of the phone and i know what makes the screen go crazy but i dont even see a bit of difference. Could another phone running GB thats perferbly a samsung made phone touchscreen settings work?

The problem is that your phone uses some new Melfas drivers that no other phone(including Samsung) has. The source code for your phone is horrible, I'm surprised you don't have more problems than just the touchscreen.
