Root Decision Time

Ok so CM6 or CM7? I know both have their in and outs. My main concern is Go Launcher EX working on it, and Go SMS Pro working, as well as Boot Animations and the what not. I finally have internet at home in good old Largo, FL. Got a tech type buddy of mine coming over on Thursday night to help me through the flash, as i am not super tech savy. He has flashed several android devices so i have a little more confidence with him watching over my shoulder.

So for you that already have CM6 and or CM7 i would really appreciate some input as far as the main programs i will be using.

Also which is the best root explorer androot or what for use with CM6 or CM7?

I already have everything i want to keep backed up on 2 different memory cards, as well as to my PC on 2 different drives. Yes i am extremely anal about that type of stuff. Heck i still have .img files of windows 95 and up on one of my hard drives..lol..

Thank You in advance for your advice and support here in the forums

CM7 is running great, still minus the camcorder though. I never used it anyway. Runs fast, loads fast, got the occasional force close, but back off the overclocking a bit and it cleared right up. You will need to use Root explorer on either one though, as Androot does not like CM, and will not show you your files. Let us know how the decision turns out.

Thanks for the advice..especially with root explorer. Think i am going to go with CM7 for the built in OC...

Went with CM7..Took me all of 15 minutes thanks to the guide...it was easier than i thought it would be..and i am loving every bit of CM7

dont forget to backup...:D and CONGRATS!!!

Well after many frustrating hours on CM7..Could not get custom ringtones to save to my contacts, and when i put on GOSMS Pro i got 4 notifications instead of 2.

I switched over to CM6. I see a new build of CM7 is available, so i may put that on 05052011 and see how that goes

if you use go sms you have to disable the notification in stock messaging, or you will get different notification at the same time.

LOL..Yeah but there are so many notification settings in CM7 its hard to tell what is what...lol at least for me...

Also when i put CM7 on it would not let me select any custom ringtones for my contacts, it kept switching back to default...which is frustrating. I am gonna try the new build that came out last night..If not i will flash back to CM6 and wait for another CM7 update..lol
