Help default message app won't close itself?

r u using default app?

Yup, that's why I replied. ;)

i hit home and check the apps that are running it still shows msg app running

That's expected behaviour. This is Android, remember? Idle apps will remain like that unless either reactivated by the user or the OS decides that it's unlikely to be required and should be politely ended.

how come all other apps close after i hit "back" but message app does not?

Because it's not just an app but involves a service required to handle incoming messages too. The OS needs it, iow.

Android is designed from the outset as a mobile OS for devices with limited resources, and generally speaking knows what it's doing. Just use it, learn to trust it, and you'll enjoy your GS2 more. :)

Why do you need "to clear memory"? Are you getting low-memory warnings from the OS? If not then let Android do what it's designed to do i.e. manage its resources automatically.
everytime i click the ram tab and click clear memory, there's always 16-20 applicaitons being closed

Hi,
Hope someone will be able to assist on my issue. It is very similar. Each morning
I unlock my phone and see messaging running. I do not leave it open before going to sleep though. I cannot close it to access my phone as pressing back button switches between messaging and contacts only. I need to go to my task manager first by pressing the home key and closing it from the task manager by pressing the exit button. Is that also a regular behavior of android? Would highly appreciate any help on how to fix it. Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000, gingerbread 2.3.6. I have already tried total cache clean up and complete user'r data wipe- did not help

"No problem here. Open app, read (or send) messages, hit HOME, app closes."

Then how come our apps not closing and yours is? I do get your explanation about apps running on the background...these are apps "running in the background" our issue is an active app that is not closing properly. Point is it is not normal for the messaging application to not close upon hitting the exit button...hope someone can shed a light on this...I had to register just to point this out.
