Root deodex my current ROM

j006

Newbie
So I've read a bunch of threads on several different forums on deodexing and I'm still making sense of it. I understand the concept and my reason for deodexing is only to apply themes such as changes to the status bar i.e. battery percentage in stock battery icon, smooth sense icons, etc.

I don't want to flash with a deodexed original 2.2 DINC ROM because I will lose all of my current settings, apps, Tasker setups and such. Of course I know I can back all of this up and restore but there has to be an easier way.

I would like to use a current backup ROM that I've made with clockworkmod and deodex that, then reflash with THAT so I can then apply some themes. That way I have everything intact just as my phone is now, just deodexed.

Any simple way to do this?

Cheers

When you say "use a current backup" which ROM do you have backed up, or is it stock, rooted, 2.2? You can't be on stock 2.2 and be deodexed unless you flash a ROM like Virtuous. Any custom ROM will be deodoxed for theming

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear with that; yes, a stock, rooted 2.2 ROM. I've removed all the bloatware via titanium but otherwise it's stock.
If you are using the stock rom you can flash any deodexed sense rom(preferably virtuous, it is the most like stock) over top your current rom and not lose any apps or settings.... this is just in theory, it isn't guaranteed to work but you most likely won't have any problems.
This rom is your best bet:
Virtuous ROM: Other Releases

Cheers for this! I think I'll give this a go...
