Root Deodexing Advice

I've been with Android since the G1 came out when I was with T-mobile. Moved on to Verizon and got the OG Droid and on with the X...never had the "guts" to root any of my phones until recently.

In all honesty I don't know why I didn't do it before. Anyways I'm not looking into applying any ROMS or full Themes. All I want is a black notification bar, I looked into it and the one by BLACKMODZ looks interesting. Only thing is that the phone needs to be deodexed in order to look right.

Any suggestions on the safest way to do this without applying a ROM or full Theme would be greatly appreciated.

My .02 is that if you are on .340 and you want a black bar? Just check out fab's ApeX 1.3. It is exceptionally stable and has a black bar already. For a newbie, this is the safest and easiest way to deodex and get a black bar.

^Exactly what he said.

ALso I was the same as you a week ago, never rooted or anything previously. I finally mustered up the courage, pff it was so easy I am mad at myself for not doing it earlier.

I rooted with z4. Downloaded bootstrap, made a nandroid backup. Then flashed fab's rom followed the directions to a T which are really simple and bam black notification bar, deodexed, etc.. the way the phone runs now is AMAZING. And whenever you need to update to a new OTA or something you can load your nandroid backup which is only rooted, unroot and your phone is completely like you got it from verizon.

If you want directions you can PM me ill help. But basically make sure your contacts are linked with your google account, or you can back them up with titanium backup or whatever and you basically dont have to worry about anything. your contacts are backed up, and you have a backup on your phone incase you mess anything up. Apps everything else are simple to get back even without a backup.
