Help Desire always shows 3 messages unread

Curiously, my Desire always shows that there are 3 unread messages in the list. When I receive a new SMS, the notification shows there are 4 unread messages. After I read the 1 new unread message, the Message app does not show any more unread messages.

Now, I am using widget called "SMS Unread Count" by "kankgems" and it also indicates 3 unread messages related to Messaging (not gmail or Mail).

Where are the unread messages hiding ?

Could be saved messages on your SIM card. Open the stock message app and try this:

Menu > Settings > Manage SIM card messages

If there are 3 messages on there, delete them.

Great suggestion, but no messages on the SIM. Any other ideas?

This might sound silly, but try checking your voicemail. Even if you don't have any messages, let it go through its thing, maybe even try to check for new messages even if it says you have none.

I had a phantom SMS a while back and remembered that voicemail counters are handled by specially-formatted messages (at least on my carrier, surely this is universal?), and getting my carrier to realise I had heard all messages seemed to have licked it.

I only had one, not three, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks, I checked that and found 4 messages. Deleted them, but the SMS Unread count is still 3.

I don't receive voicemail message reminders, but good idea.

i had this problem from us cellular. i even called tech support, i ended up resetting my phone to factory and it took them away.
