Desire battery consumption

Check to see which apps are constantly updating in the background, maybe set some of them to manual update or have them sync less regularly.

I'm having similar problems as above.

The figures for my phone are -

Android System 34%
Cell Standby 21%
Phone Idle 13%
Display 12%
Voice Calls 9%
Internet 4%
Wi-Fi 3%
Shop Savvy 2%
Dialer 2%

Up Time - 4:5936
Awake Time - 2:1739

In case you haven't already try all the usual things like restarting your phone and performing a battery pull. Also if nothing else works back up your data and perform a factory reset.

Also do what wardogz said. I had a problem with a third party camera app occasionally not shutting down properly and thus eating about 10 % battery in an hour.

Thanks guys.

I only have Facebook and my Mail syncing, but dont know what else will be being used to be honest. How do I know which apps are updating?

go to settings/applications/running services

There is -

Calendar - ObexService
Calendar - Connectivity Service
Touch Input - Touch Input
3g Watchdog - 3g Watchdog
Battertime Lite - BattertimeLiteWidget
Scanner Radio - Player Service
Soccer Scores FotMob - Live Data Service

Looking at that should I look to bin Soccer Scores?

probably, people reported similar with sky news (which you also have). try it and if no different then reinstall, you could try same with scanner radio

I have no experience with that app so it's worth a try..

huge discussion on here. do a search.

what i do is let the battery run down as much as i can then turn the phone off and do an overnight charge.

this should prolong the life after a full charge.

I took my Desire off the Charger at 06:50, now its 16:12 and it has dropped to 75%. Thats less than 3% per hour. I made a few calls, used the internet for 5 minutes, 1 text message, 3G & GPS are enabled, Bluetooth is off. I have Tasker running, and SystemPanel is monitoring continiously. Good Technology push mail is constantly running (a known battery eater), Email and calendar are syncing at 1 hour intervals.

This proves to me that something is constantly chewing up my battery only when 3G or wireless is on (or possibly connected in the case of wifi)

Yesterday demonstrated that with occasional use of 3G (eg hourly) the battery on the desire is more than fit for purpose. But when 3G is left on, theres a sneaky little application constantly 'pinging' away at it.

I will investigate systempanel if that will help identify what the cause is.

One suprise though is that you had GPS on, as that is generally accepted to be a battery killer regardless.

I had this this morning. I assumed it was because I had left the phone on over night while charging (I normally turn it off). Therefore I assumed it charged to 100%, then stopped charging, and came down by 10% between then and now. I assumed it doesn't contiuous charge, ie cuts out charging once 100% is reached, and needs to be replugged in to get it going again.

I got rid of Sky News and FotMob last night and disconnected from charge at 1am.

At 9am I still had 83% - so that has definitely helped.

Battery info now looks like -

Up Time - 15:34:14
Awake Time - 3:31:22

Cell Standby - 45%
Phone Idle - 43%
Android - 9%
Display - 3%

Cheers

Enabling GPS on the Desire doesn't mean it's actually on. Enabling it just allows apps to use it automatically if they need it, instead of prompting to turn it on or expecting you to do this manually.

You can monitor whether GPS is actively running by looking at the notification bar. If enabled and there isn't an icon, then it's not on (not using battery), if it's enabled and there is icon, then it's on (using battery).

I was losing 40% overnight and got rid of Sky News App, ShopSavvy App and turned GPS off.

Woke up this morning with only 19% drain and the following stats -

Up Time - 15:34:14
Awake Time - 3:31:22

Cell Standby - 45%
Phone Idle - 43%
Android - 9%
Display - 3%

Well, I have come to terms with the battery performance of my Desire. I use widgets to switch wifi, mobile data, GPS, screen brightness, and bluetooth to appropriate settings manually. With wifi, GPS, bluetooth and mobile data that means off until I need to use them. If I don't use them much I can get 3 and even 4 days between charges, but I usually charge my phone overnight and keep it topped up during the day at the office. I now never have any battery issues apart from when the battery overheats on hot days when I'm using the Desire as a satnav in the car. In such conditions the battery can discharge at an alarming rate, despite being plugged into the power, but the same happened with my old HTC Tytn II, so it's not specifically a Desire flaw and the solution is to keep the phone cool in the car.

I would suggest its' one of the Footy apps.

I recently installed the ScoreMobile app and noticed my battery was getting nailed! I couldn't make it though a day.

I changed the settings in that to stop the auto-updates (which was every 5 mins!).

Now its all back to normal. :)

I've just got Goal.com on now, which seems a decent app actually. Not sure how to change or how often it updates though..

I think Sky NEws killed mine too, along with Shop Savvy. All now gone.

I also had this problem today. Went from 100 to 90% immediately when unplugged.

I have read many threads on battery consumption on this and other forums. I have searched this forum and found nothing that deals with this 100 to 90 drop when unplugged.

Can someone please point me to the thread that talks about it.

Many thanks!

Brad

There have been several. The phone charges to 100%, then the charging process stops. The phone then runs on the battery until it reaches 90%, when it starts charging again. So if you unplug it a while after the charge ends but before that second charge starts, it's at somewhere between 90% and 100%.
