Desire battery consumption

Are you guys leaving 3g on? Only use 3g when you need it, leave it on GSM only when you don't need 3g.

And disable "always on mobile data".

I get atleast 30 hours and I use my phone quite alot

ye i am, i turn off absolutely everything. Did all the suggested tips but hasnt made any difference at all. I used to get 30 hours approx :(

I let JuiceDefender turn my 3G off and on. (off when screen is off, on when screen is unlocked and you're using the phone).

Works a treat for me (yes, i know others say it doesn't work for them, but its fine for me) :D

Have you been discharging your battery frequently?

The fact it's only doing it out of airplane mode, and as you say you only have 2 apps loaded is suggesting either an app syncing frequently (facebook, friend stream, mail etc) or poor signal to your mobile network.

How much web browsing are you doing?

As I'm on 3UK it can't be switched to GSM only, its locked into 3G connection at all times as per the rest of their phones!

the phone gets run down to empty and then charged. And ive made sure the phone runs no apps at all using taskkiller and systempanel. And this is with no web browsing at all. The phone is left on stanby with the screen off running absolutely no apps, with all communication except 2g not running either

You shouldnt run down li-ion batteries to flat too often. It degrades them, and could be your issue.

Im getting alot of mixed info on batteries! The phone is only 3 months old should i expect it to degrade in this amount of time? Should i then start charging it from above 0 to 'heal' it or shall i assume that its beyond fixing and get another battery?

Careful with Juice Defender, there are alot of reports that claim it actually drains the battery quicker. Apparently the last JD update caused some problems.

Anyway, I don't use it and I get a very good battery life.

I binned juifedefender after two days and now do the internet switch on manually with a widget.

If you disable 'always-on mobile data' the phone will turn off the mobile connection automatically after a set period of time when you press the top button. It also does the same with the Wi-Fi connection.

Well I've made a few changes and might be stepping in the right direction. I've binned battery left widget and juicedefender and have replaced the default power widget with Switchpro (a bargain at $.99!).

Charged it last night as per usual via charger. If anything I've used the phone today MORE than yesterday and my battery seems to be significantly better. By 10:30 yesterday morning (3hrs off charge) I found my battery down on 72% and today its 2:10pm (6

WiFi only if you have sleep enabled. This isn't controlled by always on data.

My Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to 'Never when plugged it' and it still disables it after a period of time when you press the top button, not when plugged in obviously. You can see that it has been disabled, because when you unlock the phone the HTC Wi-Fi widget is in the disabled state (no green on bar) and then it turns itself on automatically (widget icon animates and green on bar appears).

Since disabling 'always on mobile data' I've noticed I don't have a mobile data connection icon in the notification tray after a certain amount of time of the phone being off via the top button, whereas the icon was in the notification bar with 'always on' enabled as soon as you unlocked the phone. The widget behaviour is different to the Wi-Fi one when you unlock the phone with 'always on mobile data' disabled though, there is no icon in the notification bar, but the green bar is already there on the mobile data widget as soon as you unlock the phone, then the widget icon animates and then the icon appears in the notification bar.

To update you on my Desire's battery problem, If you have read over my previous posts on this thread you will see that I have gone to great lengths to solve my abysmal standby battery life (16-18 hours) including sending the device back to HTC.

Im not sure how relevant each thing I did here is, but in the chance that it may help others experiencing the same problem I will try and be as detailed as possible about what I did -

As a change to my normal habit of having the phone running in an absolute minimal state and then charging the phone when it ran out, I decided to charge the phone at irregular intervals, once from about 30% batt on mains charger, removing it from charge before the charge light turned green, but batt meter showed full. I also then charged it from 60% using the USB charge until full and the charge light showed green. It is currently running in only '2g' mode with nothing else running (as before), but is now showing 90% batt after 7 hours off of charge, obviously after seeing this i am extremely suprised but not easily fooled either so I turned the phone off and then on again to see if it was reading correctly and it is still at 90%. Not sure what to make of this and not going to start celebrating just yet. I will update this post in a day or so and see if this continues

Now I've had 2.2 for a few days I can definitely say it's using more battery than 2.1 with everything set up exactly the same way.

I installed the froyo update on Sunday, 1st August. I didn't have my phone rooted, just a stock desire, nothing special about it. I then did a factory reset, and re-loaded my apps, setup google mail, y'know, the usual.

My desire has now been running for 23h 21m 15s since unplugged and my battery use is still above 60%. I don't use the phone often, only a few calls. I travel quite a bit, so the phone is always trying to find a signal, which I have set only to use the 3 UK signal. I have my brightness set at 40%. I have only 2 screens of the 7 setup with widgets and so.

All-in-all I am quite happy with the upgrade. I haven't found any major problems. Before, my desire wouldn't have lasted a day without some charging, so I'm going to see how long it lasts on it's current charge. The only difference I have made is before I did the factory reset, I had the 3g watchdog and a task killer constantly running in the background, now I haven't even installed them.

on 2.1 I used to have excellent battery life, around 36 hours with normal use. Since upgrading to Froyo, my battery has totally dischanged from 100% in about 10 hours of normal use. 10 hours!!
This is all with always on mobile off, GSM connection, plain black wallpaper, and screen brightness at 50%. I did have the data connection on all day, but only on GSM, as I did before when it lasted a day and a half. Very unhappy and confused!
