Desire battery consumption

Ok now i've done battery stats reset and flashed a fresh stock froyo rom (with htc utillity) and power drain stays the same...
It must be hardware or something....

Funny thing batteries...

Take mine off charge at about 6.30 am, Will normally keep Internet / Wifi off apart from hour or so at lunch, maybe send a few texts, surf a little and call or 2, and my battery will show 80% at 5pm...

Then I get home, play angry birds and have to charge from 20% at about 10pm!!!

:D

My friends desire lasts 2 full days before dropping to about 35 or 40%. It also seems to stay at 100% for what seems like a long time.

When I first got my Desire, I could drain my battery in 6 hours with internet/gps. I've started putting my HTC Desire in airplane mode when I'm at work (I don't need it at work). It saves quite a lot of battery life for me. I still check my task killer every hour or so. Seems like all those apps like to open on their own. I still haven't figured that out :p

Edit: Thanks to some reading earlier in this thread, I think I've solved the problem with refreshing apps. Instead of using bookmarks widget, I put shortcuts for all my bookmarks on a home page. I'm hoping that keeps internet from opening.

Hi

I've had my HTC Desire for just under a week now and I've followed the advice and charge it and allow it to completely run out before charging again.

After the first charge with everything running my battery lasted 10-12 hours.

After the second charge I switched off the auto sync and background data and adjusted a few other things, such as the 'Location'/'GPS' thing and the battery lasted 25 hours.

After the third charge I manually turn on and off the connection to the internet (by pressing and holding the power button and selecting 'mobile network'). I figured that I don't need my phone constantly checking the weather, Facebook, Twitter, Emails, etc. and I can do this manually whenever I choose to.

I leave on the weather and all animations, including the animated wallpaper. As I type this I have two bars left and my phone has been running for just over 50 hours. My friend now manually connects and disconnects from the internet using this method and has switched of auto sync and background data and his phone is now up to 40 hours with just over a quarter battery power left.

I have read up on app killers and there are lots of mixed reviews about them. From what I

I found out, after testing a lot of different configurations that turning off "wireless network locationing" doubles my htc desire HD on time:
Menu/Settings/Location/Use wireless networks (off)

I have 3G (background data allowed), Wifi and AutoSync (4h:FB, google, htc, twitter...) on all time and end up 50-60% battery left end of the day with moderate use.

I used to have real troubles to have the battery last a whole day.

Can someone please explain why this would make any difference to battery usage?

Reading some of these posts makes me slightly envious as my Desire is practically useless now thanks to the battery.

I've turned literally everything off (Wifi off, BT off, GPS off, autosync off, sound off, display to lowest brightness) but the battery dies after next to no time.

As an example my phone was connected to my PC for most of yesterday (charging) and at 11pm last night it was showing as fully charged. By lunchtime today with next to no use the battery had run out and the phone had switched itself off.

That's surely the sign of a duff battery isn't it?

You should get a better battery life when your phone is on Gingerbread.
Hopefully, HTC will release the update this month.

I thought HTC had decided not to rollout Gingerbread to the original Desire?!?

EDIT - Just seen the other threads on GB so ignore what I just said.

Im sure I read on here that battery doesn't last as long when charging via a computer doesn't last as long compared to using AC power because of a lower voltage??
Im sure someone could confirm that though

No.
Charging from a PC uses goes with a low current, which takes 2 times longer to charge the phone. Then, it doesn't matter how it was charged (PC or AC): the battery lasts equally long.

I did a hard reset last night and I'm currently running it without any (additional) apps installed and the battery seems much better than before. I'll see how it goes over the next week or so.

Hi, I've had my Charge a little over a week. Yes, I'm using it a lot, but the battery drains quickly no matter what, and one reason I chose it over the Thunderbolt was battery life.

Even if I unplug it in the middle of the night, it's under 80% when I wake up at 6-7 am and says the display is using 75% of the battery. When I use the phone, I have to fully charge it 3 times a day. Brightness is set as low as possible. The 3G signal is meh, usually 1-3 bars. Screen timeout is 1 minute. Wifi, GPS, bluetooth are always off. Power saving mode is on.

I do have yahoo mail push and mail sync on.

By the way, I had them replace the battery because I was having these problems, and that battery was getting really hot (probably well over 45 C). This battery drains at the same rate, but usually doesn't get over 40 C.

I would also like to know why turning off "wireless network locationing" would make a difference to battery life? I have Tasker using it for a couple of tasks so probably wouldn't turn it off but would like to know if it would make any difference?

Hi everyone. I would like to thank all of you for sharing your battery saving tips and tricks. I have had quite variable battery life over the last 14 months that I've had my HTC Desire. In the last 2 weeks however it really bombed to the extent I was running out of juice by lunchtime without even using the thing! I followed all your tips of removing the battery, turning off all the networking switches and minimising syncing and it was still draining more than 10% an hour on battery graph while supposedly in standby. Spare parts showed me that TouchDown was the most used app whils partially awake. System Panel Lite (what a cool program - hats off to the maker) confirmed that Touchdown was using my CPU to the max even after I switched off Push email and Autosync on my hotmail account. So I used System Panel to end the program and since then a battery life revolution has occurred!

What I wanted to ask you guyswith more experience in these matters is: is there anyway of correcting the bad programming on Touchdown. Or should I bin it altogether - it seems to be behaving itself now after just ending it once so far. Is there a better app that allows you push email with hotmail with activesync feature that allows you to delete spam and junk on the go on your phone rather than having to do it a second time on your PC? Would appreciate your advice on this. Thanks once again for an excellent and informative forum.

All new Desire owners. Has anyone else noticed the battery charge does not seem to last well? I have the wifi turned off and only enable it when required but just general usage seems to sap the power quite quickly. At the moment I'm not sure a full charge would even last a day!!! Are there any smart apps out there to help manage this? Do widgets relly use that much power? The Android OS itself seems to use an alarming amount of power as does everything else!!! Has anyone else encountered this yet?

Cheers.

I have 2 htc desire, both battery life does not stay even for single day

Ha! If I got anywhere over half a day with the Charge, I would be satisfied.

Does anyone know the difference between Android System and Android OS? Both are listed as using about 4% of my battery.
