Desire Firmware OTA Update

I have the same problem , mine is not rooted, it's unlocked but came that way from the shop and no apps2sd.
When update to 1.15 came there was no problem and few days ago I got notice about 1.21, tried to update and that's what happened to me also, starts, downloads firmware, starts with green bar and 3rd way through stops, red qouestion, reboot, and still 1.15.
So no clue...?? :confused::(

Same red question mark problem here. Mine's unlocked, then rooted.
Does anybody have any ideas about this problem?

Hiya, interesting. I got the update today.

Now, my Internet Application Remains Active - when i try to kill it with e.g. Advamced Task Killer, it automatically loads a web-browser which then navigates to the T-Zones Inappropriate Content Page....

Anyone else getting it?

Well I updated my unbranded desire from CPW and my GPS is not working now.

It used to lock in seconds flat and after reading this thread I gave it a try and it wont lock up at all. I am very unhappy, is it possible to reflash back to the old firmware?

Cheers

Got new 1.21.405.2 update today, do you think htc started rolling that out again?
With wifi issue fixed?

I would have thought it would have had a new version number if it had been changed, especially as a lot of people installed it before it was pulled.

I found and installed the update

Unlocked Desire running OT.

Was asked if I wanted to backup data, ticked yes and after the install it proceeded to restore...only it's taken 1/2hour so far...anyone else experienced this long a process?

I'm confused as my process Only took about a minute!..I was just turning in and did a quick look for update s and just went for it without looking here first..turned itself on and off..shows new version all my screens changed, apps gone and a friendstream appeared as well as my bt mail inbox, so 3 o'clock in the morning saw me trying to remember what I had where! Don't really like having txt message counter but can live with it. Don't have any issues yet but not used wifi and will check battery life.
I'm with orange via cpw so unbranded etc.

I just upgraded to 1.21.405.2 after being asked to upgrade. It has worked, but it has reset all my homescreens to the standard HTC versions!
Very annoying - anyone know if I can restore it to as i had the various screen app & widget setup?
Also anyone know what this update is meant to do or fix?

I'm having this exact same problem. Updated it, and the restoring my original settings took well over 20 mins and didn't do anything. So turned the phone off and on again, and its taken everything back to standard.

Can't find a way now to load settings from the SD card?

Bit annoyed.

And also it now displays the number of messages from each person in your inbox, which I'm not really fussed about - anyway of turning this off?

how come ive only recevied on firmwhere update since i got the desire when it came out? the one i have now is 1.19.161.5

I have the HTC Desire with Telstra (Australia) and my software version is 1.16.841.1 and no updates come up when i press System software updates.

What can I do to get the latest update?

Thanks.

Well mine just updated to 1.21.405.2.......i had just got home from holiday and thought it was a nice surpirse, hoping to see some new features ect....gutted now, i've lost my wifi connection.
Mine was a Tmobile handset which i debranded and flashed to a generic rom, using the goldcard method. (sort of wishing i had the courage to totally root mine!)
I have written to HTC support, lets see what happens now.

To save me trawling through 10 pages of this thread, has anyone got a date of a fix from HTC?

Cheers

Its to do with debranding, I doubt you will get a resolution from HTC as your handset is via Tmobile. I doubt Tmobile will want to deal with it, there are a number of threads on how to go about sorting your unit.

I've upgraded to version 1.21.405.2 and wish i hadn't. All my sms have now been duplicated so they show up twice in a row *every* time and I lost every widget I had on the home screens. Even worse is the fact that now I can't change my wallpaper to a custom picture. It tells me that I've selected a picture as my current background, but keeps it as the rainbow dots background. I can switch to other HTC backgrounds, but not a custom picture of my choice...

This is ridiculous. Did anyone actually test this before they pushed it out?

What do you think the odds are of a new update to fix the bugs this update has caused?

I'm very disappointed in this as my phone was set up perfectly before this and I only accepted the update as I assumed it wouldn't total my phone's setup.

Let us know what kind of reply you get... should be interesting.

But if you bought from a retailer that has since gone bust, who would you deal with then? (Hypothetical question)

My friend just told me he has been updated on his Desire from T Mobile to 1.21. Im on Orange. No update for me.
Bit Hacked off. So much for the Merger!

Well i got back a reply, not that it's of any help,
I have fired another email back to them.

Dear XXXX The best thing to suggest here is to perform a factory reset on your phone. To perform a hard reset please do the following: Go to the Home Screen Press Menu Tap Settings Tap Privacy Tap Factory data reset Tap Reset phone It is also possible to perform a factory reset by using the hardware buttons on the phone. 1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button. 2. Wait for the screen with the 3 Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button. 3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER. 4. When asked to confirm, press VOLUME UP With this procedure you will lose your data on the phone. However if you have set up a Google account on your phone, your data is synchronized and backed up on your Google account. To setup a Google account, please do the following: Go to the Home screen Press Menu Tap Settings Tap Accounts & sync Tap Add Account Tap Google Tap Next Tap Sign in Enter the Google Username and Password Tap Sign in The handset will now automatically sync Contacts, Calendar and Gmail with the Google account. Well, my morning has turned from pleasant surprise to being in a pee'd off mood! Awoke this morning to find my phone telling me there was an update available, so I quickly switched on my WiFi before I trundled to work and downloaded it! Woohoo I thought, as it installed and did all it's business - do I want to perform a backup?! Why yes, yes I do! Thank you very much for asking! So after it's finished downloading, I jump in the car, not touching the phone, and when I get to work it says "HORRAH! I have finished installing the update!", to which I say, HORRAH as well, and THEN it says, "Ooooh, sir, by the way, would you like me to restore you backup?" and I say "Yes I spiffing bloody would sir!" and so it wirrs away for a few minutes doing that...but then when it's finished, it doesn't seem to have restored my phone in any other way than a factory reset - all my custom screens and icon layouts are gone, wallpaper defaulted back, basically everything has gone back to when I first switched it on. I quickly checked one of my most frequently used apps, Handcent, and I found that each message thread showed only incoming messages, all my parts of the conversations were gone. Well, geez wizz mister, thanks for nothing. I checked in the stock messaging app and at least my side of the conversation seemed to be present. So...what the hell has happened? I know, I know, I can go back and sort out all my home screens to how I want them, and all that stuff...but I shouldn't have to.

I'm betting there isn't even a "roll back" option to get my phone back to how it was last night when I was perfectly amazingly happy with it. That'll trust me to click "YES" when it says do I want to update, I should have clicked NO, come to work, checked on here, and then thought twice about it.

BAH. Blast and balls. People moan at me for spending too much time on my phone anyway, now I'm going to HAVE to.

Well i did the hard reset but off course that didn't change anything, they are now advsing me to take it to a Service Centre...hmm don't even know where that would be...

I'm having an identical problem with my Desire. Supplied via Orange, I debranded the phone using a goldcard method to get rid of all their baggage software. After the OTA update finished installation on Saturday i was unable to connect to my wifi networks.

I've spent a couple of hours now going through various threads to try and find a solution. There have been some whispers of some kind of fix but the details were vague and referred to threads that I've not been able to find. The only thing I can think of is going through the proceedure of debranding the phone again and installing the un-updated version, but to spare me that - can anyone suggest any other alternatives?

If i get this working, I'm definitely going to think twice before agreeing to an update!

I have to say i have never had a software update that has caused me this much annoyance. Yes i can get over it, it's just bloody annoying.

I downloaded the update today from the phone. For those of you who don't have the unbranded update url its: http://liveimage.htc.com//OTA_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_1.15.405.4_release_P28tjyo7ovjwu8s0eu.zip

It downloads fine then asks if i want to update to which i answer yes then the screen goes blank and the HTC logo comes up.

Then the progress bar is about 1/4 filled when all of a sudden a big red ? (question mark) comes up and the phone restarts and tells me to download the same update again!

Obviously its failing to install the update and informing me that the install did nothing so how do i get it to install?

I also tried downloading the file from the site on my PC then copying the file to my SD Root directory and renaming to update.zip, then putting the phone into recovery mode and trying to flash from SD card but keep getting a message similar to "permission denied. Verification failed".

Any other ideas?

Did you get anywhere with this, matey?
