Desire Firmware OTA Update

I have just been in touch with htc about the OTA update and the lady who I spoke to said that she was totally unaware of the update. She said the only time there is an update of any kind it would be on their own website. She said I should be weary receiving such updates OTA. She told me not to accept any future updates, as they have had stories of peoples phones dying on them because of this.

It's kind of worried me with what she told me. Should I be worried?

The lady is clearly bonkers.

Call her once more and tell her to look at official HTC website

Update

The update killed my WiFi too :(

Have an Orange phone flashed to an unbranded ROM. Is there anyway to get the wifi back without reflashing the ROM (and thus losing the data)?

I updated mine to the latest 1.21.405.2, unbranded from CPW on Vodafone. No problems with my wi-fi and everything appears to be working fine, and quicker is anything.

It looks like the people who are having problems are the ones who have flashed their firmware from the original/branded to a non branded copy. lol

It would be nice to have a list of changes that have been made in this update, as there don't seem like many, but as I say, it does appear to have improved the phones performance.

My wifi is fine after the update, also Google Earth is now showing in the market for me aswell. Now to make some space for it:D

Decided to reboot my phone and the update was picked up after the reboot oddly so downloading and installing now.

no probs n am happy with the update.... though there is nothing new apart frm the msg thing... still nt seeing google earth :( little sad there...

I'm feeling a little left out, i have tried the usual searching for an OTA update but my phone comes up with the stock "Your software is up to date", am i missing something or have i done something wrong.

I am on Vodafone UK with a handset that was brought from them with none of their branding on it at all.

Can someone help so that i can be one of the cool kids again!!??????!?!?!!?

I've just done the update, no apparent problems.
But it seems that I lost some HTC widgets that I was uing ... like calendar or picture frame. Anybody having the same effect? Checking for "more HTC widgets" there 2 new there (coin and dice), but pretty useless :)

Done, painless and quick.
HTC calendar widget still there (all 3 styles)
Probably my imagination but WiFi signal apears stronger now when I'm out in the garden....

The update notification never came for me on my unbranded phone from CPW on 3....

I went into settings>about phone> and clicked the System Software Updates at the top of the page and it told me the update was available. I performed the update over wifi and it took about 5mins to reboot and update everything..

When it had booted back to the desktop, a message popped up saying the download was corrupted and did I want to re-download it?

I said no/cancel and it seemed fine. I looked in the About Phone menu and it reported the new FW as being on the phone so I shut the phone down - left it off for about 30secs and re-booted.

When it had booted up I got a message saying that the update had been successful!!!

Whatever. The upshot is that everything seems fine, no wifi issues, YT better with a HQ button....see how it goes ;)

Hi folks - bit of a noob here so pls be gentle with me!!

I have an orange branded desire which i debranded using the instructions elsewhere in these forums - it worked great! So much better than without all that orange junk littering it.

It then asked me to do a another updates to slightly higher versions - again all worked well UNTIL the firmware update to 1.21.405 last night....

It seemed the firmware had worked but when it went to reboot it wanted an 8 digit pin number to unlock which i don't have.

I spoke to Or*nge who were mystified [didn't mention exactly what i'd been up to] and seeing as i've had it less than 28 days are dispatching a new phone to me as they think the phone is bust since the sim works in another phone.

So once bitten twice shy and i'll get a new phone from them later and be back to square one with all their bloatware.

So it seems I have 2 options
a) go through flash rom process again with all the inherent pitfalls and chance of nuking my phone again.

b) put my or*nge branded phone for sale on ebay and use proceeds to buy a brand new vanilla phone untampered by anyone (but unfortunately not in black).

Any guidance/advice much appreciated - this stuff is not really my bag and i've been trying hard to learn my imei from my cid from my sim etc - all constructive advice muchly appreciated!!

thx.

Will it be necessary to do this upgrade in order to (hopefully) do the FOYO upgraded when it comes out?

Or will this minor upgrade be automatically included?
