Desire Firmware OTA Update

I have contacted HTC want to know more about this WiFi issue and why it affects some and not others before I update this firmware, not only that if I do experience some problems afterwards how do you get back to the previous firmware?

We already know!

From the feedback here and on XDA, the wifi issue is exclusively affecting people who debranded their Desire and flashed to a generic rom.

Why exactly this is happening, is anybody's guess. HTC probably won't be able to help you though, since flashing to any rom - even a generic one - is not supported unless it's via an official update. They're not obliged to even test these things.

I just found Google Earth on the market! That's new.

Also, folders now appear to be transparent, weren't they solid colour before?

Update on my unlocked and unbranded Desire seems to have gone smoothly but still can't find Google Earth in the Marketplace...

That's odd, I swear, I just searched, found it and installed it.

I thought it was a result of the update since I had been unable before.

Would I get the notification on an unlocked phone or do I need to search for it manually?

I think that eventually it will give a notification, I was over eager so did a manual search for the update as saw as I saw HTC's tweet:

On the home screen press Menu, Settings
Select About Phone
Select System Software Updates
Select Check Now

hi, i've just done a check for updates and it found a new version and downloaded and then installed, no problems with wifi, i cant see google earth tho, phone is unbranded and unlocked

Just updated - my HTC Calendar widget has gone from the homescreen - went to re-add it. It is GONE from the widgets list - only the Android Widget - I want the htc widget back - can anyone confirm the same?!!!

It seems to have killed my Wifi too...

Desire from Orange, flashed to generic ROM.

Any idea how I can roll back the update?

I have just been in touch with htc about the OTA update and the lady who I spoke to said that she was totally unaware of the update. She said the only time there is an update of any kind it would be on their own website. She said I should be weary receiving such updates OTA. She told me not to accept any future updates, as they have had stories of peoples phones dying on them because of this.

It's kind of worried me with what she told me. Should I be worried?

ohh just now only got the msg... downloading the new software update...is it really killing the Wifi OMG just now i started downloading it....

My successful OTA update was on an unbranded Desire with Voda SIM. I think the update originated directly from HTC.

Nah it's official, it's listed on the HTC website. She's talking pure rubbish.

It's still there. I'd give your phone another reboot if I were you.

Done a manual update check and it just keeps telling me its up to date, but the build is still 1.15.405.4

I have an unbranded Desire from CPW with O2 simplicity
