thanks for your help Rastaman , i did not manage to solve this at this time , tried to wipe the device and no luck
i'll get back to you when i find a solution for this

if it behaves the same way with any computer then contact htc as its official firmware so you are still covered by warranty

dont bother installing this "gingerbread" update u cant root your phone afterwards,and its not that inpressive either,
now stuck with it. iv'e tried gingerbreak it does'nt work.will have to wait till some clever knob'ed sorts it out. i much prefer the option of choosing which rom to use on a rooted phone.

I ended up giving up on this ROM and installed this stock rooted Gingerbread ROM
[ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) [Optional Mods] - xda-developers, which has been extremely stable.

Hmmm, well I rooted after running the offical HTC dev Gingerbread update. Been running a custom ROM for a few weeks now, all good.
