Help Desire HD bluetooth problems - in car

I have the same problem with my HTC Desire (Vodaphone pay monthly, 2.2 Froyo, Software 2.29.405.5) The phone drops out after a few minutes if it even manages to connect on Ford Audio on 2010 fiesta, Ford transit connect 2008 and 2009 Alfa Spider. I have also tried the usual fixes ie reboots deleting connections and reconnecting but no joy. They all worked fine until the updates. With the decline contacts fix the phone asks every time I connect even if dont ask again is ticked then leaves the phone screen on and flattens the battery. Is this happening to many Desire users or are just a few affected?

Hi,

Love the Desire HD, but seem to have a major problem with connecting it to my Audi in car bluetooth system.

It connects, but within seconds it disconnects and won't connect again - anyone else have this issue?

Help!
Hello,
I have exactly the same problem as you,
do you find a solution?

Thanks

I've been experiencing what sounds like the same issue connecting to the Seat bluetooth kit in our car. Everything worked fine with my old HTC Hero but the HTC Desire HD handset would connect then 10-30 seconds later would drop the connection.

I'd nearly given up but today I spotted in, settings > power saver > "Disable Bluetooth" (Turn off Bluetooth if not in a call) which by default was set as on.

I've now turned it off and so far the Bluetooth kit now seems to pair and connect and hold connection.

Might not be the answer for everyone but thought I'd share just in case.

Hope it helps.

I originally posted for help a while back and had given up (and bought a hands free) - your post above post now enables the Desire HD to work perfectly in my Audi!!!

Many thanks..!

Ben

There is no such general energy saving option on the Desire, and on the bluetooth settings, nothing similar neither...

New update installed, still same issue present...

Hi.
Can't find this settings on my Desire, any one how can guide me to this settings option.
And I also experince problems with connecting to mu Nokia handsfree carkit CK-300. Sometimes it connects automaticly, sometimes not. Can't find any thread in when connecting or not. And i also have the problem, that sometimes the sound only comes out of the phone, and not the carkit even if it is parred.
Never faced this problems with my old Nokia E51..

Maybe Apple is better on this BT issue. ??

I looked into my earlier thoughts, a little bit further and think this is almost certainly one of the causes of this issue.

I have WhatsApp installed. After installation, I received 'suggested links' notification, which I checked and added. Next time I paired, it failed.

I went through and deleted all WhatsApp links from my contacts...and hey-presto it paired again!:D

It might be good if people with this problem posted back with any 'extra' links they have in their contacts (i.e each contact that has a 'linked' icon in the top right, when viewing detail). I'm guessing we will find a few common apps that are causing the issue.

My phone pairs WITH contacts being displayed too, and my 'linked' list is as follows:

Phone
Twitter for HTC Sense
Facebook for HTC Sense
Google

Hopefully this helps us find any rogues (assuming my theory is right!)

Really useful thread.... I have a Desire HD that seems to connect nicely to my Nokia BT car kit. The only problem I'm having is that I can't get it to voice dial without touching the phone... not very useful when it's in my pocket or in the boot!

Does anyone know if it's possible to set up the DHD to respond to the BT car kit "button press"?

Thanks.

hi, i have a samsung fascinate, and when i connect my phone via bluetooth to my audi's mmi system, it doesn't come up with the option to share or not share my contacts. is there anyway to do this on my phone? (i'm having the problem that my phone connects via bluetooth but disconnects after 2-3 minutes).

also, do you know how to delete the contacts from my audi (i don't know if this matters or not)

update, I deleted the contacts from my audi's local memory and with high expectations, called my husband to see if the bluetooth dropped...unfortunately the same thing happened - at around 3:30 min of talk time, the bluetooth connection dropped. i checked the contacts list on the car, and it hadn't updated the contact list from my phone. so i'm not sure the contacts are the issue. any help?? i'm desperate! thanks so much!

It started to go wrong after I linked the Phone Contacts with oogle contacts.

Now it is ok.
- I unpaired the phone from the car
- Repaired them again (using another device name for the phone)
- Denied (!) access when the car asks for access to the Phone's cotacts

Got same probs with DHD and Ford Fiesta sound system. Used to be fine with my Hero, but now sometimes connects, then drops out, then locks the sound system, then locks itself. Restart the phone radio, aircraft mode, even restart the phone and it plays up again....totally random! I'll try some of these suggestions and see what happens. Come back my Hero, but with a bigger screen!

I'm having the same problem with my Desire and a Bury System 8 car kit with a Desire cradle. It pairs ok, connects, but then doesn't work or drops out.:(

I love my HTC Desire but this driving me nuts. Before upgrading to Froyo it connected to my Lincoln's Microsoft sync just fine. After the upgrade it pairs, connects, drops and won't reconnect. Then I thought NOT loading any contacts into the car's phone book solved the problem, but now it's dropping me again after about a minute. It also starts playing music when it does connect even though I unchecked the media box in the bluetooth settings.

I had an application called Volume Locker to stop me from inadvertently changing the volume by touching the poorly organised volume buttons on my Desire.
When trying to take video, this application kept getting in the way, so I deleted it.
Now my bluetooth connection to my Bury System 8 with the Desire cradle works properly.

Hey all,

seen there's been a lot about the HTC bluetooth in cars, that keeps disconnecting so here is my story and fix.

Had a Desire working in a Ford Focus (6000 series radio/cd) for about 6 months, then it started to disconnect approx 10 seconds after connecting.

I tried unpairing, which sometimes took about 10-15 goes to unpair. Re-pairng would work for a few minutes to a few days.

Here is how mine works ok now.

When you start a new connection, the phone brings up a tick box, about always allow Ford Audio to connect.
I had been ticking this box, so I left it unticked. The phone and radio would bond and not disconnect.

I tried several times and succesful each time. To double check, I ticked the box and sure enough, the disconnection error happened again.

It's not ideal, but when you get in car, you get a bluetooth authorisation request on your phone. Just ignore it and you will see the bluetooth icon change to show it is connected.

Been working for a few weeks now.

Hope this helps some of you as it was driving me nuts!

My Desire HD bt works fine with my Blueant Q1 headset, and always has
I also use it in my work van with an Eclipse head unit
Started having similar problems couple of months ago where the music would cut, phone ring, then music come back on again while the phone still rings
So for some reason I was loosing bt connection
Tried re pairing, no success
I fixed the problem (so far!) by turning off 'Disable Bluetooth'
Go to Menu>Settings>Power saver>Disable Bluetooth and uncheck box
I can only guess it sometimes gets it wrong and disconnects things

Hi.

I have a DHD with Froyo, and a new Ford Mondeo Titanium X Sport with the Sony 'premium sound system'.

The 'phone will connect via BT no problem. The 'phone book syncs up nicely etc.

My problem is this: After a traffic announcement from the radio cuts into playing music, and the announcement finishes, the music comes back but keep dropping out/coming back every 5-10 seconds. If I activate the 'phones' screen by pressing the power-on button, this solves the problem and the dropping-out stops.

Any ideas for a fix on this please?

Crash.

I just got a message that an update for the Desire HD was available. after installing this update on my Desire HD. Audi MMI and HTC Desire HD works fine!:)

Just took delivery of my Audi A4 and was having the same issue with my HTC Desire and wanted to share that the don't-share-your-contacts trick worked like a charm - and the car had a cached copy of my contacts from my previous attempts to get this working.

Woohoo!

It also starts playing music when it does connect even though I unchecked the media box in the bluetooth settings.

Often the media players (e.g PowerAmp) have a "reconnect when detects bluetooth" setting that you also need to tick/untick as desired.

How do you stop it from sharing your contacts?

I have Desire HD and incar Nokia CK7W and found same problem that you have.
I downloaded Vlingo from the Android Market and that has solved this problem but raised another known issue which is that when using the person you are talking to hears an echo of thier voice. This is on Android 2.2. They may sort with 2.3 but hey ho it works. The other issue with Vlingo is that if you make a call using the car kit or any headset when you disconnect the kit the phone restarts itself which is OK if you are aware of it although annoying. Vlingo know about it as well. Hope this helps.

Crash.

I still have this issue, which occurs only after a traffic announcement interrupts the BT streaming. I can turn off the traffic announcements on the stereo to avoid this, which works, but sometimes on a longer journey it's good to have these announcements switched on.

Has anyone found a solution yet please?

Thanks

I was really pleased to have BT functionality when we got our new Ford Focus. However, except for the first week it has been a dead loss. I took it back to the dealer to check any software or hard ware issues. The senior technician had a HTC smart phone which connected every time. Mine will not.
Last weekend I did a factory reset and it connected but since then it will not. I am not impressed with the phone for a variety of reasons. After my iPhone this is a dead loss and cannot wait until my contract finishes.
Any ideas from anybody will be gratefully received.

Probably not the problem but have you tried making your phone "visible" (under BT options) before connecting to the car? I know with my car radio (an older Pioneer) it has a known bug where your phone has to be visible (from a BT POV) before they'll connect - even though they are paired and, in theory, should do.

Worth a try.

I have the same problem. I have the Desire running Android 2.2 and got me a JVC car Hifi with a2dp support. The bluetooth connection will drop after 10 seconds. So annoying  I don't have energy saving settings and I don't share contacts with my Hifi so the workarounds provided here will not work. Anyone have another idea? Anyone tried updating to 2.3?
