Help Desire HD bluetooth problems - in car

I have the same problem. I have the Desire running Android 2.2 and got me a JVC car Hifi with a2dp support. The bluetooth connection will drop after 10 seconds. So annoying  I don't have energy saving settings and I don't share contacts with my Hifi so the workarounds provided here will not work. Anyone have another idea? Anyone tried updating to 2.3?

The problem seems to be, that the hifi asks for permissions to read the phone contact list. Somehow reading the contacts via bluetooth seems to kill the connection. When I don't allow my radio to access the phone contacts everything works...

After many attempts the same that everyone has done here, I managed to finally get my Desire to connect to a 3 series BMW system.

1. delete the previous pairing
2. Pair the device again
3. Once connected, I get the box popping up on the phone requesting to allow phonebook to be accessed.... check "always" and DECLINE.

This worked for me.

I have a similar problem with my phone dropping the BT connection. It was fine until the most recent HTC upgrade (2.3.5). I looked through the logs and there's nothing obvious, however it is quite possible that the problem is to do with number of contacts as one of the last entries before the error is to do with phonebook. Android loves duplicating contacts as the contacts sync doesn't work that great especially when you upgrade to a newer version. I have a suspicion that many car BT are not designed to cope with 250+ contacts so they fail on sync.

I found that by disconnecting GPS the phone was immediately recognised by my Audi. Bit of a bummer if you also want to use, "Navigate!"
