i guess that's our only choice until HTC get an update out. Interestingly enough though some phones are working just fine and dont have the problem. It's a strange bug this one.
Doesn't look like hardware related, just seems a calculation issue really with the sensor..Nothing major.
HTC will release an update with this.
If you remember, when the EVO came out state side...1st week, problem..3rd week OTA update.
Glad to hear its not just me at any rate, phones4u were telling me that I had to claim it on my insurance...despite my warranty, never gonna be getting a phone from them again.
Going to ask a completely newbie question as this is my first android, but when a patch is released will my phone download it automatically or is there something specific that I have to do? I didn't see anything about it in my manual
NO NO NO NO..Do not claim on your insurance, Warranty it or take it back instore..Don't pay an excess for no reason just because a shop wants to palm you off.
HTC will release an OTA for it no doubt, they have for every recent handset so far..sometimes they take time (aka Hero), sometimes they are quick (Desire & EVO).
Your phone will search for them automatic..well my Hero currently does
Mines also screwed, really really annoying. It doesn't do it every time and I can't work out precisely what is influencing it (putting my hand/face over the phone has zero bearing on it). Sometimes it goes black (as above) and other times the screen will stay on (incorrectly) when pressed against my face etc.
Hope they sort it, otherwise it's going back.

Hmm..interesting...I know its going to sound a daft question and forgive me for asking it;
But you not had the phone in your pocked whilst sat down have you?
This sounds bad.Maybe my T-Mobile curse could be a blessing if this is a hardware problem. I'll wait till I hear this has been fixed. Is it doing it with every phone call?
Looks that way doesn't it.
Reading further in, looks sensor related on how things are calculated.
The Distance Marketing Directive says you should get 14 day no quibble money back guarantee with any electronic product purchased online or over the phone, that's why I never buy mobiles in stores.
Good man *buys you a beer*
Just read this thread! What's going on here? Problems with the HTC Desire HD already?!
I'm hoping to get mine this week......
What problems are people experiencing? Is it affecting UK owners too? This has come as a bit of a shock, wasn't expecting this at all!
No offence, but what phone doesn't have issues when it comes out?.
Everything has teething bugs, cars, software, a phone is no different.
If you didn't expect any problems then i'm sorry to say you are living in a dream world...In a perfect world everything would be fault free, but it isn't and thats that.
Rest assured. HTC will sort it
One has to speculate whether it's software or hardware, if the latter then well, there'll be quite a few handsets being returned and some very angry people.
Sounds software on how it calculates on the sensor (IE calls to press, etc)..I had the same issue with my Hero..Update to 1.6 from 1.5 fixed immediate
