Hi All

Pretty new to all this rooting stuff.... planning my root and upgrade to 2.2...

getting very confused with all these different roms and then 'radio' ( what is that?? cant be the fm radio i think!...)

I think I can handle the root, but just looking for a 2.2 rom which i dont need to keep updating and allows/help me install apps on sd.... im always running out and want to try nfs shift!

pls offer links to such rom and advice on this radio thing!

much app

The radio is the software used to get a signal on your phone. Some roms include it. Others often have links to install a specific radio. If you download it separate, you often have to put it on your SD card, call it update.zip and use the option apply update.zip from recovery.

As for which is best, that's subjective and I haven't tried then all.

Personally I like modaco roms which also include radio.

Thanks danfrance for quick reply:D

I think i'll go for a modaco to keep thinks simple :p

I see you use modaco r8, any probs? Im not an advance user just one that lets me install apps on sd and is stable so i dont have to keep tinkering with it! if r8 suffice where can i down a real copy?

cheers

I'm sure other people will gave their say shortly. If going for modaco, definitely wait for the full release of r8 but if you cant wait, I'm sure other options will be posted soon. R8 is stable but not the fastest out there. Faster than stock 2.2 though by quite a bit. Modaco are as close to stock as you can get I'd say, but tweaked and improved

psh, read the rooting glossary, one of the stickies in this forum...!!!!

Radio
Firstly, this is not a radio with which you can listen to music or chat shows. The radio you often hear about within rooting is the phones communication radio. All mobile phones have a radio, which allows the phone the ability to transmit and recieve radio waves, such as phone calls. I'm not going to turn this into a technical discussion on how mobile phones work. All you need to know is that you can update the radio firmware on your phone by flashing an updated radio image (via recovery), and that some new ROMs require you to flash a later version of the radio you may already have in order to work correctly.

:p
