Root Developer Team Optimus M Discussion

I've got a extra M laying around I would like to donate to someone working on the ics project. This phone does have the issue where the screen blacks out and it wont wake back up sometimes. Its been that way for the past 3 or so years I've had it and after getting another M I gave the od one to my g/f who had the same issues. That being said its a great phone for testing as its rather beat up and otherwise functions fine. So the question is who do I send it to?

I think this is meant for devs only ;)
I do not need one.

i understand this- why do you think i asked lol. Im not currently involved in porting a version of ics to the device, but id work at it if i had one.

Yea the phone as a daily driver isnt that great as I said it blacks out and doesnt come back. Doesnt always do it, may not do it for a month then it starts doing it and wont stop lol. Nothing has fixed it , not 2.2.2 kernel or anything. Its also got the old not so bright lcd in it as it was a early model. Its currently on the windows 7m rom flashed clean. Only overclocks stable at 729. I want to donate it to a developer as they have done so much for the phone already and I know I benifited from their work.

Do you have kernel experience? We need someone who knows a lot about kernels.

Porting Cm9 to OM has proven to be a very tough task as proven here, so i think that whoever gets it should really be seriously about it and have the highest knowledge/tools and etc.... out of all of them.

yes I have kernel experience. Granted most of the stuff i've been working on in the past has been for the sensation (couple of other side projects here and there) just becoming active here at AF in the past month or so.

figured id offer to help tho lol I only dev for phones i own. im a nerd with an inordinate amount of free time these days :)

Hmm, then it's between you and drewwalton cause I'm pretty sure he's interested in this as well. He is a dev who has done great work with ICS on the Optimus V and Optimus S. He knows exactly what needs to be done to get a 2.6.### kernel working with ICS on this phone but just like you doesn't want to do it blindly (without device).

LETS GET THIS GOING!:D:thumbup:

yet i do not see a drewwalton post here. (j.k) details have been exchanged with the op. REAL TALK: when i get the phone an ICS port WILL happen. no bullshit. I work 1000% on my projects.

I wonder, can you get us an actual 3.0 kernel??? That would be nicer than GB kernel ported to work with ICS....

Let me know what y'all are wanting. I will spend hours of my life making it work lol. Ive been hacking computers since 93 and working on phones since 2012 - i have a late start but i'm determined as hell and i dont like dissappointing people.

[edit: 3.0 ahhhh maybe a hybrid.... you know 3.0 isnt for phones. shame on you

[edit2: ive been chatting with some peeps from school and sent a message to sir walton. Consensus is that an ics port is feasible - im stoked to work on something new lol the app im working on right now is giving me a headache haha.]

LG Motion 4G has 3.0.8 kernel....it is for phones.

I will just be happy with ics on our phones. I'll let the technical chat to ya'll :D ?If i see there's anything i can help with...i'll scream lol.

there is an obvious difference in phone ability lol. Making a phone with 4.0 native software to work on something backwards (eg. 3.0.8 or what ever) isnt difficult. The optimus m is a completely different phone with different limitations. I dont believe an ICS port to be out of the question but a honeycomb port seems absurb.

i honestly think if we slim everything down to the bare roots well be able to make some progress. maybe a fresh set of eyes will help ???

You're not getting what I'm saying. The "LG Motion 4G" is an ICS phone. It uses a 3.0.8 kernel. A 3.0 kernel IS the correct version kernel for ICS.

to be debated i suppose. i know there are some "3.oh's" available (benee, Harsh, etc) but ICS still isnt here
