Help Diagnostic mode?

hi, I have been trying to access my sph-m820bst through CDMA WS for several days to no avail. Every time I try to put it in DM regardless of rom (CT MOD3.8, HalfAssRom1_0, 187MoD-HoneyBread6) it fails to accept the MSL with an error message saying "modem exception occours". It also randomly reboots and dialer hangs when dialing. Thinking it may have something to do with the custom rom, I have spent the last few days searching for a stock rom but, all of the links posted in "all-things-root" thread are broken with the exception of the FF18-rooted, but the file is unflashable as far as I can tell. Im only using the phone for a doner phone, so the random reboots really don't matter that much to me unless someone thinks it may be a symptom of a larger problem. Any help provided would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks

Are you sure the MSL is correct?

The MSL and other NV items are not part of the rom so the rom you are using is not likely to be a problem, the zip files, FF18 and such are not flashable they are to be used with odin, the phone needs to be in download mode.
If you want to use the phone for a donor the best thing to do is use QPST and use the file explorer part of it, open the nv items and pull out item 466. Then using winhex or another hex editor read it.
 
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried to download the FF18 file twice just to be sure, but there was no ops file included. Isn't that kind of a deal breaker for flashing via Odin? As for the MSL, it was the one that the boost mobile customer service rep provided me with when I called yesterday. To read info from the device with QPST don't you need to be able to access diag mode?

I am not sure if it is a deal breaker, but it is a good idea.

I have the stock ej06 zip that does include the ops, you can just pull the ops to use with odin and still use the newer image. or use the old one and let it update. That can be found here
Yes boost should have given the correct one.

Yes you do need diag mode for qpst. But that info was for when you get to diag mode its easier to get the info from qpst, cdma ws will not give you the info you want. Though you do need to send the samsung password in cdma ws.
 
Thanks so much. image worked. Unfortunately, dialer still crashes with modem exception when trying to input MSL for Diag mode...
 
1. Confirm msl - in terminal type
Code: 
 getprop ril.MSL

2. Dial ##8778# and enter your msl at the prompt.

3. Switch from UART to USB and return home

4. Dial ##7678# and enter your MSl

5. Switch from UMS To DM at which point your phone will reboot

6. Now open device manager and expand the com ports section. You should now see Suamsung Android usb Diagnostic Serial Port
