Help dialling numbers problem

Hi all,

I purchased my LG Optimus One about 2 months ago and as my first smartphone, I have been more than pleased with it really. My only problem is quite a major one, seeing as it's the most basic function of being a phone...

When dialling numbers using the phone keypad, when I hit call it just reverts back to the home screen. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens more often than not. If I'm dialling a number from my contact book, it works fine, or if I dial from text messages. Obviously, the whole point of a phone is it's gonna be a major inconvenience to keep adding random numbers I want to ring as one-offs to my phone book just to make sure the calls go through.

Initially when it first happened, I tried turning the phone off and on again. This works sporadically...about 50% of the time it's happened it's fixed it but 50% of the time it hasn't. I thought it may be an app I was using interfering with it..I stopped advanced task killer froyo and it worked, however, every time since, it hasn't worked when doing that.

I can't find any posts or anything online of people having the same problem. Am I missing something obvious here? It's rather frustrating. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Fi.
