Root Did I break my phone?

Well, everything was fine last night. Was already running MikFroyo 4.5 and decided to flash the kernel. Flashed fine and booted up. Loaded setCPU and it ran like a champ all night. This morning I powered off the phone just to reboot it, now it is hanging on the white screen that just shows HTC EVO 4G.

Went and did a Nandroid restore from the backup I did before flashing the Kernel last night, it is STILL hanging on the white screen. Doesn't reboot, just sits on that screen. Been that way for a good 5-10 minutes. Is there anything else I can do or am I completely hosed???

That did it. Looks like that got me back and running. I did forget to wipe the cache and do a factory reset from the recovery menu before doing a restore. My bad :D

Only thing I can think is that the kernel I flashed caused this or something. 4.3.2 netarchy-toastmod-cfs-nosbc-havs-more-universal (More Aggressive HAVS) was the kernel. Think should I try the 4.3.1 stable release or just try the kernel flash again?

You're welcome! A restore is supposed to overwrite everything but I have had issues before with not wiping before a restore and having issues so now I wipe everything before restoring and don't have any issues.

Before doing the nandroid restore, I would have wiped cache and Dalvik cache, then rebooted.

If that didn't work, then do a restore
 
Well, it happened again anfter I installed the Netarchy 4.3.2 havs more kernel and setCPU. Reboot just hung. Another restore and tried the 4.3.2 havs less kernel this time. Up and working now with setCPU installed but just set in conservitive mode, havent set up any kind of profiles yet. Afraid to reboot at the moment as I am at work and do not have my charging cable.

Question though, do I HAVE to setup profiles in setCPU or will just setting it to conservative work ok?

You don't have to set them up. What are you setting Setcpu at as far as min and max settings? If you go to high it will boot loop. Leave "set on boot" unchecked also for the time being til you get it set the way you want and have no issues
 
I had this problem when I very 1st tried MikFroyo, also was my 1st ROM. Put this on 3 different phones and all got stuck at that screen and had some other issues from time to time. Decided I'd try downloading it again and giving it another run since so many people like Mik's ROM. So far I haven't had any issues and been using it for a few days. Actually have the best battery life and performance I've seen yet. I'm also using Calkulin's format all and using Amon_RA. Which could be the difference from when I 1st flashed, I was using Clockwork.
 
Yeah, dropped down to the 4.3.2 Less HAVS version and running it now. Will test more tonight when I get home. :D

Might try that this weekend. When I first loaded Mik, I was using the clockwork recovery (which I have since heard is not as good as RA at wiping cache). I am now flashed to RA. May just format and load again using the RA recovery instead of clockwork. Worth a try anyway.

Ya, I'd try it if anything else happens. We had issues with the clock and other widgets freezing all the time. It might just be the kernel you were using though? We tried a bunch of kernels and still kept having the issue. Since I started using RA and Calkulin's format all zip, I haven't seen any of the issues I did on my 1st ROM flash.
