Did I get ripped off? >.<

I bought an extended battery from Amazon a little while ago (this one) and it doesn't seem to work as well as it should. Few issues-

1) If I turn the phone off, charge until the light is green, and power it back on, Android only reports it being 90% full.

2) If I keep the phone on, charge until full (the last 5% takes a long time) and then some, take it off, it almost always drops to >90% within minutes, and then fast drains, and then goes to a MUCH more normal pattern.

3) It simply does not last as long as I thought a 3500mAh battery would last. My expectations were that it'd last about 5 hours on screen time, or about 3 hours on screen time while still getting me through 24 hours. This does neither. It lasts about 1.5 hours screen on with music and radios on (Only 3G and cell radio for calling/texting) with ~30% left by 5PM. Also, the battery meter is quite jumpy sometimes, gaining up to 10% on a reboot. Only a bit better than the stock battery...

4) Battery Monitor gauges the battery at 1700mAh, but I don't know where the number might come from- might be from a database of device stats.

Did I get ripped off?

Maybe it requires a few charge cycles or try calibration first . From its unbelievable price you could have been ripped off but I would live with the battery for a few days or calibrate and see if that helps..

Bought it two weeks ago haha. Did a few battery cycles, battery life did improve- but only up to the point described int he OP. Really hope I didn't get ripped off. >.<

At that price you definitely didn't get ripped off!
I wouldn't think I would get a top quality battery for less than $7
I am a firm believer of you get what you pay for....obviously look for the deals but there's a reason its sooooo cheap

I suppose you could email the seller and give a bad review...that usually gets their attention

Lol wasn't looking for a Seido or any of the fancy ones... just something that'd get me 4-6 hours of screen on time or 2-3 + a whole day... I think I'll email them

ok also you may want to calibrate the battery and also try these tips for saving battery

If you want some tips here:

1) Go to settings<Display<Brightness and lower it to 40%.

2) Turn off wifi, bluettoth, mobile network (3g), and 4g unless you need one of them...

3) Download this app here: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=fast+reboot.. after you are done playing or using an app load fast reboot plus before you turn off your phone too....

4) Download this app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=factory.widgets.SenseClock&feature=sear ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImZhY3Rvcnkud2lkZ2V0c y5TZW5zZUNsb2NrIl0 this is an "htc" clock for your home screen (can be found through personalize< widget< you shoul see the widget there) This clock will use a lot less battery than the one they give you and set up to only show time and system info....and phione temp

5) Using your clock widget you should see your phone temp... if it rises above 85 degrees fareinheight then let your phone rest on sleep for a little... After it hits 90 degress your phone starts burning battery crazily.

6) Also in the system info there is an ram and available ram showing.. the AR should be close to the total ram EX 500 m.b of ram available if it drops below 300 then hit that fast reboot app.

My Seidio 4000mAh battery was $52 and I easily get 4.5 hours of on-screen time. Most times with electronics, you get what you pay for. Most times.

Unfortunately, "you get what you pay for" is true (most of the time ). Well hopefully you can settle it with the seller but I wouldn't really call it a big loss.

It's a cheap Chinese battery, it could actually have as little as 1200MAH, or as much as 3500mah, but only last a short time before it starts to fail.

Charge it fully, restart, let it top up, then while on the charger, reset the battery stats and give it a few days to settle.

If you still get junk battery life... For $6 (and including a cover), you can't expect a lot.

How do I calibrate a battery? I have the Seidio 4000 for my Evo V 4G and I have done the deep cycle thing and usually get about 36 hours off the battery with 3G, 4G and wifi staying on. I do let the screen go off after 2 minutes of inactivity.

What I have noticed is my battery goes from about 45% to 19% pretty quickly but then takes forever to really drop down past that. I have Battery Widget and my temp has never risen about 76.8 and that's in the Seidio extended Active Case and Convert Case with holster.

Ideas?

Batteries are one area you can't skimp on, you definitely get what you pay for. One of the biggest things to look for is Made in China, if it is not from a reputable brand (some have onsite quality control or at least very strict standards) then stay away from anything marked as such.

There are many cases of "extended" batteries that are anything but, some testing at half or less of the rating given. Even some of the bigger names fall a little short of the quoted ratings. I personally stick with Seidio, at least till I got my EVO 4G LTE with the non-removable battery. The key thing here is buy a known brand, always.

Other than knowing your recovery by heart, and telling you every single button to push, it's pretty much laid out right there.

To be honest, if you cannot handle that, you probably shouldn't be rooting or messing around in the recovery.

I just meant how do I get into recovery? I don't claim to be the brightest and would never attempt to root it as I would probably brick it. Just curious about this battery calibration thing...

You would need to root and install a custom recovery that has the 'wipe battery stats' option

If you are not rooted you cannot do this
