well I did the forced update.. with a very minor update... suppose to improve wifi and get you option to veiw browser in mobile or full desk.

couldn't see any difference once I completed it .. but interesting thing was I called tech support and they told me there WASN't an update.. but the website had it listed with instructions.. looks like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing..

Support sometimes doesn't know that updates are coming till they actually happen, from what I hear from people I know in support.

You are right about the communication breakdown. I've spoken to people in support and also on the NC development team. Theres walls between the store reps, support, and development team. BN is still a company in its digital puberty and theres some sometimes awkward transitions.

My mother got one for Christmas and when I said Android, she said help me with this. So I checked out the web site and manually downloaded the update. Supposedly helps WyFi Connections but I have found that after the upgrade it actually makes it more difficult to connect. They have a router and I entered the WEP encrpition code and now the NC can not connect to the router.

Neet little toy if you like reading books. I told her to buy a Samsung Galaxie Tablet or wait for the Moto Tablet.

Thats not a NC issue, its a router issue. Ive heard people using verizon FIOS and some at&t services have issues.

are you sure its WEP?

Well I know it is not a router issue. There are 2 computers a Wii and a Samsung Blue Ray DVD player that all use the router and all work.

I went ahead and told the Wii to forget the WEP code and that was the issue. I forgot the order of the code.

NC sees the WiFi and is working as a B&N says it should. I still say Android is open source and I should be able to pull the .APK files from anywhere and put them on the nook. B&N say no. I know Root is the answer. Alas it is not my nook.

Thinking the Samsung Blue Ray DVD player may be Android as well. It has Net Flicks, You Tube, Pandora radio and connects to the internet.

It certainly can be a router issue. I've had people tell me that their ISP set up their router in a way that was incompatible with the NC.

Android is open. Anyone can take it and lock it down to make a product like the verizon android phones that have bing or have a full customized UI like the NookColor. That is not google's doing. This is BNs product. If you want to unlock it to its full potential, root it. Even if you dont, its still enough tablet for the average consumer. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.
