Root Did Z4 Root work for you after 2.3.340 ?

Thanks. It was frustrating. All; good now though. At least I learned that a quick SBF can save me a lot of trouble.
 
so after a lot of reading i found my answer to be deleting the OLD Superuser.apk and leaving the SuperUser.apk and running z4. the method i used was from here.

after some messing around the terminal editor finally gave root term and allowed me to delete. after got z4 going and rebooted and finally got root. life is good again

Not at all from me either, I was actually following your posts to see if you got it worked out before I updated. If you or anyone else figured out a way to root, I was going to feel confident updating myself.

I ended up downloading the official OTA .zip file (the one that got pushed first that people had no problem rooting) before you figured it out anyway, but I was still hoping you figured it out.

I wasn't offended or anything. It's just hard to tell on here sometimes :) All good. Glad you found a faster way
 
The best part about these 'troubles' is that you do learn a ton about the phone and, since a complete reset is now second nature, experimenting with new apps and ROMs isn't as intimidating. To that end, I do wish someone would find out how to unlock the kernel so we could get a complete and proper vanilla Froyo on the DX.

The only thing that bugs me about resets is that I have only ever had AppBrain sucessfully reinstall all my apps once... :(

Go to your appbrain account from a PC...you'll probably see you have multiple devices listed under your app lists in the upper left hand corner, all of them your X. You'll have to copy and paste your apps to the newest listing, at least I did the one time I SBF'ed. Once the copy and paste was done and I synced from the phone, all of my old apps showed up ready for me to install. Check it out.

I just installed and ran Z4, and my phone seems to be frozen. Pressing the power button does nothing either. Should I pull the batter and reset, and wait to see if anything will happen?


Edit - It says "Running exploit in order to obtain root access..." at the bottom of the screen. But, its frozen. Not sure what to do..

Keep pulling the battery and trying again, might take a few tries.

Thanks for this find. This is what was causing the problem for me and my phone is now re rooted and running great again....
 
Interesting thread. I need to sbf to .340 (on .320 now) so I am wondering if I'll have issues with rooting. I've actually never flashed the phone before so kind of nervous. I have RSDLite 4.9, is that ok to use? Anyone know?
 
Thanks, but besides apps, what else is good about Rooting? I'm not sure if its possible to have a custom rom on the X yet? I would like to remove some of the unnecessary bloatware preloaded on the X, but I heard thats risky.

There should be a link to the sbf earlier in the thread. I'm on the mobile site right now so I can't find it :/ it's easy though. Today was the first time I had ever flashed an Android phone.

I have the file from the TBH app so good there. Guess I just need to follow the instrux and have at it. Oh well, I knew eventually it would come to this.
